Just heard that the Meadows will be lowering the retention rate of Trifecta wagers down to twenty percent.

Back in 2010, they raised that 29 percent retention rate to 35 percent (the highest permitted by PA statute) then last year lowered it to 27%. Now it seems that betting trifecta wagers in PA is not so bad an idea.

I commend today's Meadows Management whom I have criticized in the past years for their usury taxation rates (retention) on the trifecta pools.

Add to that, they will be racing on Saturdays and on Holidays, something I had complained about for as long as they have cut the weekend & holiday racing cards.

The Meadows is probably my favorite harness circuit....for what ever reason, I seem to have a good feel for their racing.

I agree with the takeout relief, although they are still on the high side in many pools, this is certainly a step in the right direction.

I do see they will race MTW and Sat days, at least thru March.
Racing Saturday afternoons is a huge mistake....they will be lost among
the major tbred meets. I realize the handle cannot get much lower, but
this won't help.

Hopefully I am wrong, and the exposure will help, but I have a hunch
they will move back to Fridays rather quickly.

I wish them luck!

I would have preferred their racing on Friday and Saturday nights and close on Wed for their four day race week but we will take what we can get.

Afternoon racing on Saturdays never really worked out when they ran double headers. It was back then when the racing meets paid a fee to the then owners of the track, Global REIT, a percent of the handle on Saturdays for their rent. There was no stipulation in the agreement that what would happen in the event of two race cards being run. The Meadows paid the percentage on the slowest day of the week (Matinee) while their best card, Saturday night, was not taxed at all for the rent.
