A lot of the smaller tracks are like that now.
Portland Meadows and Turf Paradise are also in the same boat.

I think it just shows that in a lot of cases, it's the same people betting the horses all over North America, no matter what the track. As opposed to each track having it's own group of fans that only bet in their own city exclusively.

I'm not surprised, Delta has become a fairly popular track these days. The higher quality of horses running there than in the more distant past, the higher average win payouts, etc., have not been totally ignored by everyone, obviously. There is a tremendous amount of wagering dollars in Texas, and much of that money is being bet at, and on, Louisiana tracks, especially this time of year.

Good point. And that is why contraction is not a solution. More players is the only solution.

Yep.

Why play Delta with $20.00 winners left and right while one can grind out $6.20 winners at Aqueduct. :p

AQU had two very logical (which I played winners today) that paid very well.

Race 5 the 5. $16

Race 8 the 4 paid almost $60 bucks.

At least they are playable and a "handicapper" can dope them out.

Delta doesn't seem to be a track where formful prices win. At least in my dense eyes

It isn't formful, so crappy 'cappers like myself have a chance. :)

Hey now. Some of us day-jobbers don't have a choice dangit! :(

And I think I'm 1-32 on my last 33 wagers at "The Dump". Holy crap do I hate the Big A. My only win was Far From Over in this year's Withers in which he nearly fell on his face out of the gate. I thought my curse was ongoing till this...

He was my Derby horse. So I ended up cursed anyway. :(

There's a reason that Delta has such high average win payouts, it doesn't play like other tracks, so it's tougher for those who don't know the way Delta plays to do well there. That's not to say that there may also be some "shenanigans" going on there.

Anyway, sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

As others stated, Delta is a popular track. It is popular because it has slot machine type payouts on nearly a nightly basis.

That, and there isn't much else out there competing against it other than Chuck and Penn.

Speaking of which, Delta just started out the night with a near $40 winner ($1 Ex of nearly $200) and then a 7-1 at likely $17.20 payout in a 6 horse field in which the 2 favorites didn't finish in the Exacta in race 2.

I like Delta. A big part is Don Stevens. Very smart, very friendly on twitter.

Yep.

Great guy, and really enjoys what he does.

Toss in the music at Delta and they give an at home player a great experience.

You just have to read the form a little differently for Delta. You can get some huge prices on horses that "figure". You can't handicap the same way you do at the big NY tracks. If you watch it a while and see what is working, Delta is not a difficult track to handicap.

This track is in the middle of nowhere, even by Louisiana standards.

I visited there a number of years ago. The casino had only been open for a short time.

They had the biggest bake potato I've seen anywhere! (At least 9-inches long.). It was a meal in and of itself. The price was something like $7, which included pulled pork, chili, broccoli, bacon bits, butter, etc. Yum!!

Since my visit was multiple days, I had the loaded baked potato multiple times. :)

Think this was the night before Thanksgiving...Nitro was playing Delta, so I spent all of 5 minutes on the last 2 races--pardon my lame joke, but the last race@ delta I nailed LUNAR FOG --PAID $81.00 Been lovin' DD ever since.
from 11-25
I like the :3: LUNAR FOG 30-1 in the final Nitro.....new trainer Samuel Breaux, good rider Eddie Martin-- might work wonders for this horse

Wonder if the other trainers --when they see Sam Breaux...if they say "What's up, Breaux?"

have a good holiday

If your a fan of conditional claiming races there are a lot of opportunities at Ded.

I dont play or handicap it differently than any other track....the one place in the state I would be much more leery about playing would be EVD.

What do you mean? Heck, it's just across the border from Orange, which is a few miles from Vidor, which is a few miles from Beaumont, which is a few miles from Houston. Middle of nowhere?
