Not if you're in the 1 hole and are on a dead rail and can't find a way out.

great horses and good jocks overcome track biases.I have to disagree with you on that. Track biases get the "best horse in the race by a country mile" in every kind of race from grade 1 stakes to bottom claimers.

American Pharoah beaten by the bias in the Travers?

How about he was aided by the bias in the Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Haskell, BC Classic.

Jerry Bailey won the juvenile and told reporters the outside was best, then proceeded to get Skip away stuck on the inside in the classic. Smh.

Cigar in BC Classic. J.D. Bailey gave one of his worst rides ever.
The rail was golden at Woodbine that day. He had Cigar in the 5-6 path
from the 3/8s to the wire. He lost by a neck.

Anyone who has a set of chart books would find it impossible to disagree. I do, and I have scanned them, and would post them if copyright issues didn't concern me.

Go back to the newspaper archives. The first reaction of the trainer was dead rail and unwise choice to go there. Over a week later, it was "incubating a virus."
