It's my understanding that Equibase is the source of racing data and all others add enhancements to that.

Equibase is the official data collector. There are people at each track that collect the data.

Why are the equibase PPs criticized so much? Are they actually worse?

I don't think it is the PPs themselves so much as the Equibase "Speed Figures" and things like that. The basic info is the same.
I think Equibase receives much of the criticism it does because they are THE SOURCE and everyone else is relegated to backseat driver status.

If Equibase is "bad";do you want to go back to the days of the DRF and Morning Telegraph as the sole unofficial providers?

Where did he say, or even imply, Equibase is bad?

Since 1990, Equibase is a partnership between the Jockey Club and the Thoroughbred Racing Associations of North America (TRA).

I've found out on here usually just ask and several will provide answers. A bunch of knowledgeable people on here even when I'm away.

Is Equibase the company that began reporting "run-up" distances? I haven't looked at an actual form in a long , but I don't recall seeing such a figure in the Daily Racing Form or Bris?

When my tracks dumped DRF and went with Equibase, so did I. I am well satisfied with the relationship as they are a good crew. They provide good products as well as a very helpful and friendly customer service department. I have never once had a complaint about Equibase.
That is not the recommendation I would present for some other providers.
