I think Servis was right with the long slow gallops, but looking back it's kinda
obvious the horse should have had another work. Maybe just to have blown him
out down the lane even.
You can say what you want about a lack of tractable speed, but I say they
weren't going THAT fast damn it. It's not like they tried to repeat the '78
JCGC or something here. THAT was an insane pace, this was practical. I will
agree that keeping the horse wide was a bad move. Thinking on that, maybe he
actually lost the race at the post position draw - which should not be possible
in a 9 horse field at Belmont
