I use Windows7 and have no interest in Windows10. I have a square white box touting Windows10 in my laptop's tray. How do I get rid of it? I'm afraid to click on it figuring Microsoft will put me on the path to something I don't want.

Double thanks. I've been meaning to do the same for the same basic reason but keep forgetting to poke around until I found the thing for hiding the tray icons. I had no excuse anymore when I read this.

You're both welcome. A few weeks ago I was trying to find out why one of my tired old computers wasn't showing the white W10 icon so I tricked Windows 7 into showing it only to find out that my computer's hardware wouldn't support W10. :D

Amazing how irritating a harmless little icon can be---if ya didn't ask for it! :D thanks Aug

There are several methods to remove it. The task manager is not a permanent removal.
