I believe the Borgata is the only one.

Borgata is the only one... I had to drive down there a few times over the winter when I didn't want to have to put my action in VIA an ADW due to the contract dispute. On the weekends aside from their main horse parlor Borgata opens up a side room with a bunch of TV's and totes which I really like.

How's the Mohegan Sun racebook in conneticut?

Trying to plan a fight night and combine with the racebook during the day.

I like it. It's at a far end of the casino so it's kind of its own little world. The bartenders have been really nice and the TVs and machines are all new. Comfortable seating.

I like the racebook at Mohegan. Just make sure you check the map before you pick a parking spot. It's not the easiest place to navigate between areas. I feel like the foxwoods racebook is a little more impressive though. You walk in through a little doorway into what looks like a racing imax movie theater. And it's super close to the poker room which has racing on TV often and a betting machiene that is easy to find.

As mentioned above, Borgata and they treat you well. On big race days it can be hectic with almost all the seats reserved. However, on an off weekend its great and you can drink tickets for betting $2 and can get top shelf everything. Totally worth it.

This is a great thread that brings back memory

As precvious posters have said borgata now since jan when AC racecourse closed is the only game in town for racing

In its day AC had some great and unique racebooks that usually intertwined with that casinos poker room

Anybody that ever graced the trop poker/racebook has to remember the poker tables with the big green cover on them that were littered with dead tickets and profile sheets, always a great time!!

Then you had the filth at the taj, nothing was worse then when I used to get out of work I'd head over to the taj about 11:30 and there would be 3 mtp for northfields 14th, I know you know what I'm talking about

Harrahs showboat and ballys all had thier own as did ceasers which was like borgata first racebook downstairs

Resorts had a real nice one when I was under 21 in the poker room used to sweat my father playing 10/20 stud and betting horses then they moved it above the casino floor

Anybody here familiar with the trump marinas racebook? It was buried in the Back of the casino all secluded had to have been the quietest racebook in AC

As far as Mohegan sun racebook is concerned it's amazing, and the casino is out of this world, I believe the nicest in country in terms of setting, I highly recommend a trip there

I do remember the Trop's book. Always thought it was an odd setup mixed in the same area as the poker room. I used to like the one at Ballys too. But once I went to the Borgata I never went back and it closed. The only downside now is the fact the Borgata IS the only book in town. Gets way too crowded, and just imagine the riff raff from the other boardwalk books now coming there.

The one in Bally's was called Billy's room. My Father and I would go there almost every weekend in the winter. It was a great room.

on weekend days billy's room was pretty much filled up until the end (so was harrah's smaller section) and i have no idea why bally's didn't put a racing section downstairs in the new room?

I remember the quarter pound hot dogs they served. And I do remember them having coors original on tap. I remember spending one breeders cup day there when Blame nosed out Zenyatta. It was busy. I just don't know how much people were really betting there to be profitable to keep it open. I do remember they only giving you drink tickets on wagers of like $30 or more or something like that.

One night I do remember running into Pete Rose there. Went to bet the meadowlands and there he was sitting at the bar. No one bothered him at all, which is why im guessing he was there all night.

can't say i have fond memories of billy's room.

one of my final trips there i was losing at 1-1 all week and couldn't get a seat on saturday so i started playing 2-4-6.

i actually started winning at 2-4-6 but sure enough (yes, in the middle of a busy saturday afternoon) the game breaks and four of us draw for three seats in the other game.

well my record in these draws is about as good as it is with pocket kings (not very good if you don't read the poker forum) and naturally i'm sent to the waiting list.

i can't sit in the racing section because every open seat has an obnoxious "reserved for____" sign sitting on it, so i wait patiently at my original table for my new seat to open when of course the bad beat jackpot hits at a table like 15 feet away.

big $$$ for the jackpot table and EVERYONE in the room gets a $700+ room share...... except me. :bang:

of course since then i've also missed out on a bbj in the new world series of poker room in wild west too, so..... :bang:

Did they close Billy's room ? Haven't been to AC in a few years. Thankfully i am booked at the Borgata when i visit in October, would suck not to have a race book where i am staying.

they did close it zaf, and they made a new poker room downstairs in the wild west section by pacific avenue.

there's a lot of room there and idk why they didn't make a horse section there since billy's room was almost always busy when i was there? but maybe the players weren't betting too much money like monmouthjoe kinda said?

they didn't put a bar down there either and the waitresses have a much longer walk to get the drinks.

borgata is great!

Actually, at one time I was partial to the race book at the Hilton. You had a nice ocean view from most of the seats in the race book. And the only thing between the race book and the ocean was the keno section that nobody sat in.

Resorts was too cramped but it was the first.

The Taj Mahal was an absolute joke. They had bigger public bathrooms in that monstrosity than they allowed for the racing fans.

Caesars spent some money on their race book but it wasn't a great atmosphere to play in.

The Tropicana race book was a dump - especially toward the end.

Was any race book worse than the one at the Showboat?

I had lots of fun over the years at Billy's. And the race books at the Sands and the Wild Wild West were OK to play in too.

Anyway, if I had to choose one race book to survive in AC, it would have been the Borgata. Lots to like for sure!

I remember watching Funny Cide's romp in the Preakness there, cramped to say the least :D

Borgata has a model that allows it to be profitable.

For example, at Borgata all those drinks they give away in drink tickets, none of that hits their bottom line. Their cost is absorbed by the casino as a whole. Most racebooks operate as their own business unit for reporting costs. So, if you wonder why some places will only give you a drink ticket for a bet over $40, its because that's the cost when they figured out what the bet is versus what they hold versus the drink you order to break even. Its of no concern to the Borgata.

In addition, the clientele at the Borgata seems to be more well off from what I see. Yes, you have some people that still will bet $2 and drink all day long. But from personal experience, many people bet a lot there. Their take is different based on the contract with each track ,but trust me it would close if they weren't successful. In the end its still a business, and a losing proposition wouldn't last long. Looking at it in this regard I am surprised some places lasted as long as they did.
