It was, by both riders.

Few things piss me off more than Easy Goer fans who can't accept the result of this race, and pretend that Easy Goer got a bad trip and Sunday Silence a perfect one. Easy Goer blew by Sunday Silence on the turn and had 1/4 mile to pull away from him in the stretch. He couldn't because he wasn't good enough. And i say this as someone who generally liked Easy Goer.

Great race riding..

Easy Goer hopped at the start and lost about a length. Then he was moved prematurely on the back, most likely to get the jump on Sunday Silence. Sunday Silence got steadied in tight when Day made that move (about a length) and then was moved during the hottest part of the race while wider to get back to even. Then Easy Goer was probably in the worse spot along the rail through the stretch. If you net that all out it's probably close enough that if you are even through the entire length of the stretch the better horse got it done late.
