"This notion that racing desperately needs a Triple Crown winner or that it's a dying sport in need of a hero is a myth that's dragged out once a year by people who pay attention to racing once a year."

I have to agree. I saw so many people on Saturday that had no clue...and these were the people who were trying to present horse racing to the new folks. No wonder most racing newbies don't stick it out long enough to see what a wonderful game/sport this really is.

Racing doesnt need a triple crown winner..It would have been great..What do you think brings the fans back year after year!!.Sure they are disappointed he didnt win, Im sure the people that bet on Birdstone didnt mind too much he got beat,The media did a super job with all the stories, smal time owner,trainer,jock..media built them up so big after his last two wins, Was excitment for even the average joe who had never been to the races to go. This goes beyond The American dream!. This time next year,People will once again be excited,Some of them will go home disappointed,But I promise you..They will be back
