What they're doing in Philly can't possibly be a success, can it?

And while they greatly increased the purses, they didn't do anything innovative when it comes to distributing those purses, as they have done at Monmouth this year, at least as regards state-bred races (see my separate thread).

It's the same $300 starter's bonus for 6th or lower.

It doesn't really matter to them because they're rolling in millions of casino income. As long as that lasts, the racing is just a side business.

Yes, thumbs up for not giving horses $1,000 to finish last. And while we're at it, thumbs up for Parx offering smaller purses for state bred races then open company races. (I assume they are still doing that.)

Just an FYI at MP both owner and the trainer get a bonus, also Parx is seeing a huge influx of shippers contrary to the belief you had to have your horses stabled on the grounds to run.

Speaking of racing being just a "side business", I'm not a harness player, but happened to notice they have a casino called "Running Aces" where a harness race may break out every now and then. When they first sold the idea of "racinos" I don't recall that being the business model.

So I know we are only three days into this but someone correct me if I'm wrong it's the same horses, running in the same conditions with the same handle for 2.5 times as much purse money.

I'm not seeing what it accomplishes.

Not the same. More shippers, big fields.

Out of 10 races today 7 were won by horses who's last race was at PARX. Two of the other three were PARX based horses who had race elsewhere last start. The other was from Delaware Park for a trainer who ships in a lot.

In other words it was a typical Monday card.

Sunday had some Monmouth shippers and a couple Kentucky ones.

NYRA and Maryland are playing hardball with the horsemen and give them crap if they ship for a non-stakes races.

If you think this was a typical Monday card, you must never pay attention to field sizes. There was something like 117 horses in 10 races today.

I didn't think it was the same at all as far as field size, which is important.

Precisely. One thing that surprised me, speed did much better than it usually does. I wonder if they worked on the track during the time when they were closed for renovations.

Yeah but they haven't raced in a month or two.

My point is I don't see trainers and jockeys shipping in. Its the same horse population but bigger fields.

They're also writing some different races. They had a nw4l claiming condition race.
