I just happen to be in Dublin on Sunday, September 13th, a live race day at The Curragh - St. Leger Stakes Day.

I couldn't book transporation and admission quick enough. It will be my first European Race experience. I'm visualizing Keeneland on a 25,000 attendance day, but don't care.

Anyone been there. Suggestions????

I think I went through there once as a boy, but can't really help.

Hope you have a good time.

Was there for the Derby the day Soldier of Fortune won. Stayed in Dublin and took the train in. It was a nice time, think they've done some upgrades since.

18 years living there got me to most of the tracks from a young age.
The Curragh is the heart of Irish flat racing. There is no better track
in Ireland for the quality of racing. Only Leopardstown comes close.

Not much I could advise you to do - except this.
Either bring, or arrange to rent, binoculars.
The Curragh is a broad expanse of relatively flat turf countryside.
Races are often started pretty far away from the stands.
If you don't have binoculars, it's hard to get a good view
of the races until they are racing well into the home straight.

Compare what your admission/transportation costs are to taking this tour.
I can't recommend it, as I've never been, but it looks well organized.
There is a tour of stables before hand, and you're with a group.
Sounds like fun, and they have a tour scheduled for Sept. 13th.
Unfortunately, sounds like you will be a day late for the Irish Champion
Stakes at Leopardstown. That track is in suburban Dublin, and very close.
The Curragh is less than an hour's drive, though.
Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure you will have a great time.

^^^ Thanks! Take binoculars - Check!

I will actually be in Dublin on both Saturday and Sunday, arriving sometime early Saturday. While I am not familiar with Leopardstown, I have always known about the Curragh, and when this opportunity presented itself I jumped on it.

I am on a tour with my family (8 of us) and I am the only horse racing fan. I was aware of the Stables Tour opporunity, but felt that since I was operating independently, I'd better keep it simple this time.

Looking at our tour itinerary there are no activities scheduled for Saturday. Perhaps I still might be able to work in Leopardstown which looks to be a stone's throw from Ballsbridge where we are stayng.

I'm passing up a visit to Trinity College to view the Book of Kells (Woo,woo!) followed by an afternoon in Glendalough, in order to go to the Curragh - no contest in my mind.

The curragh and leopardstown are on my bucket list, along with the races on the beaches at laytown.
