Let's try this one with TFUS/Velocity.

Looks like Bayern is back, and Hoppertunity is the other main threat.
Hard Aces round out the triple.

Beholder not a contender, IMHO.

I'm supposed to love Bayern here.

I bet him to win in the Preakness, Woody Stepehns, Haskel, Travers, Pa Derby, and Breeders Cup Classic.

I couldn't bet him this year against Private Zone, and I could see that the Met was an absolutely silly race for him to enter.

I bet him again in the San Diego, and Appealing Tale harassed him all race and gave him no chance.

I'm supposed to love him here. The public thinks his last 3 races are indicitive of his talent and that will make him an overlay.
He stretches out and thus loses the 'escort' and gets to get back to what he does best; wire-to-wire on a sensible/slowish pace.

I just do not have the confidence that he's absolutely the same horse that he was last year, and that is with full knowledge of the ridiculously bad trips he's had in 2015. Gut feeling against.

This is a grueling distance for him on this particular track, also it seems that these PAC classic races are 'collapse' races on occasion, there's going to be a big sweep turning for home, I think you want some of the sweepers and not the horses down on the inside getting pressured from beholder w 119.

Beholder is pretty good. This is not a super field on paper. Unless she magically hits a a wall after 9F she seems like a win contender.

Catch a Flight has been getting some great, opportunistic trips, but Prat will probably pick right up where Stevens left off.

Hoppertunity seems to be 'inching forward' toward being an actual win contender, and a collapse certainly suits him, but I'll leave him as a 3rd or 4th type of horse.

Hard Aces got a dream trip last time and figures to take money because of it. I'm tossing him completely.

Red Vine and Class Leader are both interesting exotics adds.

Beholder is a toss IMO. She's at her best on the SA surface at 1 1/16 miles. I like Red Vine & Bayern here.

And not a good time for Xpressbet and TVG to go down.

I tossed Beholder completely out of the super. Need Bayern or Hoppertunity to win this.

What the hell was THAT?
The TVG camera couldn't keep up with her.

That was a beat down, not a race.
Fast pace, yeah, but she dominated.

Wow.

Beholder, wow.

Good gracious. Hand ride to 1:59.77.

They have to run her in the BC Classic now, and after that effort, she has a serious shot.

You rarely see thoroughbreds make a move like that and when they do, they stop...that was the type of move you see top class pacers make in harness races. Wow.

I guess so! Man, I wish Shared Belief was sound. Still, this makes the classic a very interesting race.

I was impressed. Incredible. This has to be Bayern's last race. Damn, how far can a horse decline is such a short time.

Just thinking the same thing. The splits weren't that fast to fold up shop like he did....again. He was supposedly training lights out rolling into this one.

Thanks. Had to have some good luck to have things fall my way there, just tried to get the horses in their best position.

Wow, Beholder went by them so easily.

Most of us knew this before the race yet the public couldn't get enough of him at the windows.

They need to train him to wipe out half the field, get a 10 length lead, then hang on at the wire. The Stewards will do their part afterwards. Bingo! Winner!

Wow, that move reminded me of the old days at Roosevelt Raceway when Adios Butler made that brush down the back stretch and left the field in his dust.

maann....that 3/4 mile split 1:09.4 THEN Beholder kicked into another gear and was just GONE in half dozen strides. Completely amazing. I'll never bet against her again (or bet on Bayern--think it's obvious--like "the boss" says, his glory days have passed him by)

Bayern is the Tiger Woods of horse racing. To fall so far so fast........

I would try Bayern back one more time at Santa Anita before retiring him. Santa Anita is much kinder to speed horses than Del Mar or the New York tracks. And Santa Anita loves Baffert. They'd probably soup the track up for him.

It looks like Tiger may be starting to bounce back, finished in the top 10 at Wyndham this weekend.

I'm not sure that we learned too much about Bayern yesterday that we didn't already know. He was suspect at 10F even if he set a moderate pace. He had no shot setting that fast pace. The horse he was dueling finished behind him. To beat top graded horses going 2 turns he needs a loose lead, slow pace, on a track carrying speed.

If you're talking about the Pacific Classic, it was Candy Ride in 2003, establishing the track record and earning a Beyer of 123.....No, I'm talking last horse ever.

It seems to me that there is a strong resistance point at the 113-114 level. No matter how fast a horse goes these days, they can't get above a 113-114 Beyer.

It's getting to the point where when you see a horse run a monster race, you can say they will get a 112-114 Beyer and be correct 90% of the time.

RXB

The most recent 120+ Beyer that comes to my mind is Midnight Lute in the 2007 Forego. Not saying for sure that it was the last one, but I can't think of any since then.

The last horse to run a 120 Beyer was Big Drama in the Mr. Prospector Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 15, 2011, setting a track record at 6 Furlongs in 1:08.12, earning a Beyer of 120......

It used to be a pretty reliable adjustment for Beyer to Timeform (not TimeformUS, we didn't exist!) was about 13-14 points for older horses. It is now at least 20.
