I bet the 3rd, 6th, 7th, and 10th tonight @ Canterbury. I missed the 3rd and 6th--no problem. I had 7th wired and a sweet longshot in the 10th. All of a sudden I see lightning striking all over, outriders fleeing the track, and folks that was that.
You ever been in a poker game, and some guys wins like 10 of 12 pots containing most of YOUR money, and decides he has to leave right about now?
Actually---my own fault betting the two races while waiting for the later races. Swear I thought I learned this very lesson years ago. Have a good night :)

So I'm in Wisconsin on business tonight and considered driving over. I can vouch for that fact the weather has been awful all day. I decided not to go because I wasn't convinced with they would get the whole card in.

That being said tracks are definitely more casual with cancelations than they used to be. Between liability issues and the fact the real money is made in the casino canceling is easier.

I'm sure the track's attitude is they got a full gate, three hours of concessions and some of the people will stay and use the casino. No big loss.

NCG, next time it's lightning all around?

Let's put YOU on a racehorse. Jockey for the night, surrounded by a steel starting gate. Forget that you probably can't ride a opossum through a phone booth, but too, we're giving you a fearless chance to showcase your skills in adverse weather conditions.

Why you complaining??? You already lost the first two, what makes you think your next two were locks?

Common sense. Its free. Doesn't cost a dime. ;)

A few years ago they cancelled the rest of card in similar weather conditions after the first 5 races done in a pick 6 that had a huge carry over. Some big bettors were unhappy with their pick 6 rules.

Maybe he's upset because if his last two 'locks' weren't advertised, he wouldn't have wagered on the earlier races, those bets might have been contingent on knowing he was getting his money back later.

SRU I like your take better than Grits---but Grits I'm sure is more accurate. I was once in St Paul in a hotel right next to the Miss. River, and thought their was some irritating neon sign or something directly outside the window--just flickered all night. Turned out to be lightning. No thunder--just lightning.

Welcome to the South, NCG. We call it "heat lightning". ;)
