Amazing how he can find ways to have so many good horses run so few races.

And of Carpe Diem, too.

His nickname was "The Fish."

Pletcher had one yesterday that had a 200+ day layoff then one race then another 198 days off. It won.

Guess he like to make sure they are rested.

When the pipeline is full of well bred horses, screw it, just drill the hell out of them and let the cream rise to the top.

It works for Baffert too.

Perhaps he was shooting blanks in the breeding shed.

Not sure what to think about this. We have a mare that was bred to Carpe Diem three weeks ago, and is in foal....

Sounds like an error in the workout reports. Wouldn't be the first time for sure.

What does that mean??

What does that mean??

For a guy that has so many promising two and three year olds and win tons of races at the biggest meets, his horses sure do seem to go wrong and are unable to have much of a career quite often.

Pletcher doesn't own the horse. So how can the trainer decide to retire the horse? If I was the owner I would fire him and take another trainer. ;)

That is a bit ridiculous of a theory there. Horses have a short shelf life anyways especially race horses.

The emphasis on winning 2yo and early 3yo stakes races and rushing development certainly plays a factor. Get me to the Derby we'll worry about a long career later. A list of his stakes winning 2yo and 3yo runners for the last 15 years who had abbreviated careers might be in order. Your point seems valid to me.

When you start them young like he does and when you work them every 7-10 days like clockwork from the spring of there 2 yr old year till whenever they will eventually not hold up. Its the nature of the business. Asmussen, Baffert, Lukas, Pletcher all work every 7-10 days. These horses are not robots. Why are yall so confused as to why some dont hold up?

No one is confused. We understand why it happens. Wouldn't your question have been better asked to the Pletchers of the world? Speaking just of Pletcher, his Triple Crown exploits are embarrassing at best for the stock he gets (or poaches from others) every year.

But in racing...if it's broke, don't fix it.

Guess it was a practical joke, not an error. Carpe Diem has been removed from the worktab for that date, replaced by nothing to suggest a wrong name that had been corrected.

IMO the goal for TAP is to get his owners some black type and get their horses to the breeding shed.

Surely this isn't the first time you've heard this theory so I don't know that something is ridiculous when thought by so many.

The theory is advanced when things such as as the sale of Violence to Stronach fell through when the colt failed the vet. Several weeks later we were stunned to see Violence in a graded stake in Florida. We weren't stunned that he came out of the race with an injury that required his retirement in the Spring of his 3yo year.
