So apparently a new owner of the Woodlands is trying to re-open it as a racino.

Has anyone ever been? It looks like a decent facility. A little like Canterbury.

Here's a race from the early 90's with our favorite track announcer/poster...

It actually isn't that far from me, but honestly, I'm sick of seeing racing used as the mule to get slots. NO MORE RACINOS!

F YEAH, I'm with ya CJ.

And I didn't just say that because of what I am about to say....BUT

Emerald Downs is a place to be proud of. No desire for slots.......They promote something that is the best kept secret in horse racing and of which very few people know about.......

It's just a backdoor attempt to get casinos into Kansas using the horsemen (who'll get on their knees for whatever cause that allows them to live their fantasies another year) temporarily to do so. If by some miracle he is successful, after 10 or so years, look for the casino and gov't to take the funds from the purse acct back into their own coffers using some form of public manipulation (i.e. do you want to spend public money on drugged up horses or kids education?)

Sadly, very probably true.

Just let them open a casino. Forget the races. Linking the two is dumb .

"Has anyone ever been? It looks like a decent facility. A little like Canterbury."

I lived in KC, MO from '89 through '95, going to The Woodlands initially for live thoroughbreds and eventually for simulcasting.

Never been to CBY but Woodlands was boilerplate functional, adequate stands, track and terrible food. The parking lot was enormous, serving an adjacent dog track (if I recall correctly).

Despite the cliché, everything is not up to date in Kansas City, especially in Kansas.

I've got the Form from Woodlands opening day, 1990.. :)

It's outlined in green around the cover, and not the traditional red we all knew and loved.

There are 8 casinos in the state of Kansas.

More tracks, then?? Why not?? If anything, we need some more tracks especially ones in the Midwest. ..

Most of the Kansas casinos are small Native-American-run operations in the northeast corner of the state.

This is about the 20th attempt to open Woodlands in the past 10 years. When it was operational, Woodlands was also a greyhound track. If the track reopens, they may or may not have greyhound racing.
