Our local racetrack Northlands Park, have a bonus program called REWARD POINTS. For every dollar bet on a race, local or out-of-town, they give you REWARD POINTS. These points are accumulated two ways

1. Through use at the track, via your REWARD POINTS card at the sellers wicket, or the S.A.M. machine.

2. Through earning REWARDS POINTS via your TAB account.

--I don't know the formula, but I suspect a person betting through Northlands Park earns 1 or 2 points per dollar bet. My guess is 1 point. The points can be redeemed after accumulations entitle you to either merchandise or various dollar amounts of cash vouchers. I usually redeem my REWARD POINTS for the cash vouchers. I wouldn't be surprised if the merchandise is overpriced.

--Even if the amount earned on a local track account is only 1 or 2%, it's better than nothing. It's a form of rebate. Not as good as some rebate shops or offshore accounts of course.

--Are REWARD POINTS a common feature at a lot of North American racetracks now?

--Is there a standard formula at all North American tracks for the amount of points they give you for each dollar bet...or...is each racetrack different?

Woodbine offers something similar. I think points accumulate if you bet only races from Woodbine or Mohawk.

Generally, tracks give from as little as ¼ point per dollar up to 1 point per dollar and some offer double points on live racing.

Most tracks nowadays have a player rewards system. NYRA is one exception only because they were prevented from doing so by New York City OTB which vehemently objected, and of course do not offer a rewards system of their own.

There is a rewards point system in place in New York at Vernon Downs, a harness track that also offers telephone account wagering on many tracks across the country and Canada.

Most of these "reward" systems are a crock.
Autotote has it in Connecticut OTB and if you bet something like $10,000 (they do have some double bonus days tho), you get like a $25 credit or a jacket or a free meal at Sports Haven

On the other hand I can usually get an operator on the phone and they never get my bets wrong and they take a lot of tracks.
