Note. National Park and Cottonwood Cowboy are the wid cards in this race. Regarding National Park, I'll need to see a race from him in order to get good pace figs, therefore I'll need to watch him here. With respect to Cottonwood Cowboy, his pace figs indicate he may be able to route and be a threat--you can excuse his effort on the turf where he ran a suicidal opening quarter (1042). However, Cottonwood Cowboy will have to prove he can run two turns first, and the Derby trail is lettered with horses that fail to have the muscle to route--nonetheless get 1 1/4 miles. Regarding Siphonic, he's a class horse in a non-consequential stakes race, i.e. who remembers last year's Catalina Stakes winner? Therefore, if given the odds, I'd rather roll the dice on Cottonwood Cowboy to pull off the upset, i.e. hoping that his poor turf/route performance will bolster his odds.

my mistake... missed the country code on National Park. He does have one North American effort under his belt, albeit a turf race.

Was that a bad start by SIPHONIC or what? However, I guess it makes a good workout for one of the leading Derby contenders to spot the field a 10 length lead at the start--then try to play catch-up.

With Labamta Babe 's win, it looks like the value of my second highest ranked horse's are exceeding my top ranked picks (although the records are the same)--but, it's still early in the season.
