Real men don't use shaving cream.This...

I hardly ever use shaving cream, and I have a pretty heavy beard...I just shave right out of the shower and it's not too bad at all.

Would shaving cream make it a little more gentle...yup..but I usually am running late and don't have time to lather up...

I recommend shave oil, especially Shave Secret. Inexpensive and available at most retailers.

Nope. Never had any electric give me as close of a shave as a blade.

One that is in stores and readily available. Not looking to order online.Over the years I've heard the following recommendations.

Petroleum jelly.
Olive oil, canola oil, corn oil.
Lard. This was from an uncle way back in the days when my family was dirt poor.
Motor oil.
Axle grease.
KY Jelly.
Joy. (Dish washing detergent)

I think all of these (except lard) were suggestions of what to do in a pinch.

I've tried petroleum jelly and don't recommend it. Motor oil works pretty well but leaves a smell that you can't wash off.

I bet some chicks dig it, though

Their gel is great.

Their oil is even better.

i think it's called "edge" gel

has the properties of a gel or cream depending on how you manipulate it

easy to apply(vs creams), has a 'cooling' feeling

it's mass produced and everyone can afford it.

I am not particular about the brands...but I prefer the foams instead of the gels. I don't like it when my shaving cream runs out on me without a warning. I like the way the foam spits and sputters, letting me know that I need to go out and buy a new can.

That's not bad and I have used it also.. .. It probably comes down to having the best razor blades and Fusion isn't cheap. Will pass on the Barbasol.

Plenty on ebay if that's your brand.

My choice is Nivea and Edge gel as a close second.

To solve running out surprisingly I usually buy two of items I use a lot including blades.

For those who use edge here's a link for $1 off your next purchase.

I do enjoy the occasional Old Spice shaving soap with a brush.
You tend get a few bristles up your nose, but that was my introduction to shaving when I was little. I will pass n the straight razor part of it.

A few tips for the gel: 1) buy the generic CVS or other store brand, it's the same goop only cheaper; 2) to gauge when can is running low, keep an eye on the velocity of the gel being emitted, when it's getting slower, the can is running low, and 3) to eke out the last of the gel in the can, run the can under the hot faucet for a few seconds to increase the pressure and the remaining gel will come streaming out.

Ah, a vet from the "holy crap, now what do I do" moments when you have that important date or meeting in an hour.

Good job!

Heard it from a guy who was told by an engineer who designed razor blades that the new blades will last a year if you dry them after use. It's not the use that wears them out its the water. I started shaking them off good when I am done and did notice my blade cartridge will last 4-5 months when it used to be 2 months tops.
