Very quickly more than 4% of the population of Austria have signed a petition. They want out of the EU and have put it to the legislator to do so.

Yep, you are right, just like our beloved Texans.

You see, the Austrians are patriotic and prefers sovereignty to the failed, delusional, totalitarian and utopian world of the apparatchiks and failures of the European Union.

The Austrians also believe in a strong and sound currency and monetary policy, again unlike the gonifs in Brussels.

When all this settles down we will all thank --in no particular order-- Austria, Scotland, Greece, the great Marine le Pen of France and the UKIP in Great Britain for their important and historical roles in accelerating the dissolution of the European Union and the Euro currency.

The last EU, in the 1940's, was not all that good either.

More than a few Europeans are looking at the Nordic countries and wondering why their model seems to be working so much better than the EU. It is a good question.

News to me.
Nordic countries are in EU and Norway is a non-member that has ro obey all EU regulations and contribute but without any voting rights. Some model.
EU is recovering from the 2008 banking crash quite strongly now.
Once Greece goes it will be even stronger.

You may consider looking a bit deeper into it. There was no 2008 banking crash in the Nordic countries. Their economies are quite stable. Their people are doing quite well. Have been for a long time.

At the tax rates they are paying, no one is doing 'quite well'. They are living a reasonably comfortable life, but those who wish to get ahead in life economically find it hard to do so with such a progressive tax system.

Have been for a long time.I think you need to reexamine the history of banking in the Nordic countries in 2008-2009. Iceland, in particular, had a total collapse, but the rest were not far behind. These countries, including Iceland, have had a nice rebound however from 2008-2009.

If getting ahead is defined as stepping on the faces of others to boost one's self higher, then, yes, one might consider it more difficult to "get ahead" there. Opressors require the existence of those both willing to be oppressed, and in a situation in which oppression can be viewed by those oppressed (however incorrectly) as "help."

The tax system is in no way "unfair." Those who make more, pay more. Pretty simple stuff.

I think you may be looking at a misrepresentation. The basic issue was banks (and other financial institutions) making "toxic loans"--many made due to the huge bonuses paid to their executives for making such--to various clients unlikely (and unable) to repay those loans. The issue was clouded a bit by mixing various paper clumps into packages to disguise their "toxicity." Much like the "savings and loan crisis" in the US some years earlier.

There were few "toxic loans" in the Nordic countries. There were few million dollar bonuses paid to various bankers and financial executives for making such loans. There was little or no "bailout" required, because the basic problems were bypassed due to legislation introduced subsequent to a (much smaller) similar sequence of events earlier.

The "2008 banking crisis" was caused by the greed of a few. Pretty much the same process used by Charles Keating and Lincoln Savings and Loan some years earlier.

I think most in the Nordic countries would consider that a big plus--not a negative. It is the "proof" that their system works, and works well. The notion that a small handful should get "special privileges" to facilitate their ability to "get ahead in life economically"--if it is at the expense of the majority--does not sit well with most in the Nordic countries. Perhaps rightly so.

Quite a list of goose steppers, you've aligned there.

Oh yeah, Austria. Last time they jumped in bed with someone, it was the Anschluss in March, 1938, when they simply opened the border gates to that benevolent Hitler creature! They were far worse than the Germans in Austria, descending into their role of brutal, racist, thugs against the Jews in a nano second and lining them up for the concentration camps in double quick time!

And the LePens. Oy vey! If you look up the words 'racist ideologue' in the dictionary, there is their pic, accompanied by the Nazi salute.

And the UK Independence Party? An openly affiliated subset of the neo Nazi, BNP.

Indeed- these are the Euro leaders to the promised land, worthy of any Reischfuehrer.

As far as their equivalence to Texans, that I wouldn't know.

One of the more ludicrous perspectives on "what really happened" was provided in the German film The Unknown Soldier. The person interviewed stated that the ovens were (only) a sanitary measure used to prevent the spread of disease from corpses left by Allied bombing. I am often amazed at the ability of people to construct their own personal views of "reality" in whatever manner suits them, and then to (attempt to) convince others of the "rightness" of that view.
