His daughter (Joanne) was the TV announcer at GP this year, she did her "homework". I guess she learned from her father.

Karl, she's been there last 2 seasons and also will be doing lots of other stuff. She's a pretty good 'capper in her own right. She's bred well on the top, don't know about the bottom.

Never paid attention to her the 1st year, sometime in mid-January, a friend brought her to where I as sitting and introduced her, nice looking youmg lady. Certainly knowns the business of racing horses. Of course I screwed up, later in the day I introuduced her to a friend as Joanne PINE. What are the odds of 2 published handicappers being named Gordon (Pine/Jones).

Why do you say that, Jim?

Does she have a sister? <G>

But enough about Gordon LOL ... His daughter is simply
dynamite !! And she knows about handicapping to boot ! As
for GJ ... His speed charts were ok in the olden days ..before
pace analysis whizzed on by him. One of the nicest guys on
the planet. Had a selection service last year....dont know what's
going on now ..

Lefty
06-02-2004, 12:32 PM
Gordon still has a selection service, puts out his selections on a sheet at Sam's Town for free.
If you read the book closely, he does have a section on internal fractions and using his chart to guage them.
If you think his daughter's a looker now, shoulda seen her 20 yrs ago.
You're right, Gordon an exteremely nice man.

Ahh yes....20 years ago. We would go to Gordon's seminars..
just to see his daughter !!! Absolute stone knock out. I still
have his original book..signed no less "" If you think that the
new book is worth getting ... I will ask Gordon for a
complimentary copy :)
I use Aodds for pace lines and send the race to Thoromation...
So dont know if the book will be helpful .. but I always liked his
analysis. He was doing a selection service with a very good
friend of mine .. Larry Hurley. thanks for your insights...

I have an autographed copy of the orig. book as well. Gordon, on The Sam's Town radios show, says the charts have been updated for the times. I don't know if there are any other differences or not. I'll try and find out.

Just a shame that JimG and David lack the skills needed to see a great "fig" when they see one. I did a very serious study of Joanne Jones whenever she appeared on screen. And she handicaps pretty good also. LOL

Learned speed from Gordon's book before Beyer. But always was bothered he never dealt with day to day variants. He gave general track to track variants, but never revealed his process so when things changed yearly, you were kind of left in the lurch trying to figure out how he had arrived at his yearly track changes. If his new book addresses these issues it may be worth a peak, otherwise it is a bit outdated.

sec, how he does variants today is exactly the question I e-mailed to the radio show. He'll appear tom and Sun and I hope they read and answer it.

Thanks Lefty. Keep us apprised. Also interested in whether he still subscribes to the days away rules he proposed. Seems today those layoffs don't seem as big a deal as they did back in the 70s.

He is on at 7:30am PST?

Tom, yes, Pacific Dayight time, 10:30 Eastern is correct. Gordon only comes on weekends these days, busy writing 2-3 new books.

Thanks, Lefty. Are any still available anywhere?

Anyone buy this book? Is it simply a re-publishing of the 70's classic? What's new?

Lefty
06-17-2004, 07:30 PM
sec, didn't buy it but mostly a republishing effort. Gordon stated the Speed Charts have been revised and that's all he said. So it's prob. basically the same book.

Thanks Lefty. I'll save my dough. And don't let me get you bent out of shape if I kid around in Off Topic. You seem like a very knowledgable horse player.

Tom

I'll let you know when mine gets here. Should be next week, early.

Lefty
06-19-2004, 11:47 AM
On, Smart Money I blve it's out of print and you'd have to look for a used copy.

sec, offtopic and here, two diff ballgames, if you will. Have many liberal friends. And, like Plastic Man, I can quickly reclaim my orig. shape.

Lefty,
Does Gordon have a website of his own, besides Samstown radio show?

bettheoverlay
06-20-2004, 11:24 AM
I don't think Gordon has a website but does have a 900 number for the best of his Sams Town board plays. He nailed the HOL Pick 4 yesterday with his radio play. All 3 handicappers on the radio show are now in the black for the year.

Lefty
06-20-2004, 11:35 AM
No, he doesn't. You can write the show but it's problamatical you'll get an answer. If you do it won't be by e-mail but on the show itself.
