Lately I have been noticing the odds on the tote boards are the same for 4 or 5 runners. In a ten horse field there are like 5 horses at 4-1 or 6 horses at 7-1. How can this be happening? How can bettors be placing money so evenly so that the odds never go up or down for the entire wagering period. What about the $2 bettors? their money doesn't seem to have any impact on the odds. What are there, groups of bettors with laptops dutching 3 or 4 horses in every race attempting to win twenty cents on the dollar? This is going on even at the smaller tracks. Evangeline downs used to be a good track for longshots but this betting phenomenom of two thirds of the entrants being favorites is even happening there now. can someone please explain what's going on with the toteboards? Finding overlays has become almost impossible.

Everybody has the exact same info.
It's been like this for the last five years.

I guess that explains it, everybody has the same info. I see there are a lot of software programs out there that all use the $1 Bris file or for that matter I am sure that trackmaster and HDW files all come up with the same plays. everyone is a pace handicapper nowadays. It seems to start with the morning line oddsmakers assigning the most anemic starting odds generated by their computer software. I liked it better when they had to read the Daily Racing Form and longshots were abound. You can still find nice longshot plays though gleaning the racing form pp's especially on the turf and looking for angles and playing hunches, something the software can't do. :D
