Without any fanfare, Saratoga harness recently started racing some mile and a sixteenth races....and Yonkers, which came back after being closed last week, also had several mile and a sixteenth races last night and with 10 horse fields!

Yonkers also races mile and a quarter trot races.

It looks like we have two harness tracks that are actually trying to improve their product, and payoffs.

trots are for the French fans...and their $ of course.
they are still beaming the signal into France, right?

Yes, but I think the US handle on those trot races is just as good as the other races. You can bet them. They're actually very entertaining, more so than most half mile harness races.

Assuming TrackMaster Speed, Class and Pace numbers are all adjusted for the longer distances, then all's OK with those numbers. (but I'd like to see their formula:))

However my 'Robot' makes it's own speed numbers, so rather than writing new routines for longer distance races, the 'bot' used to just toss out the race if not 1 mile.

However with Yonkers and now Saratoga regularly carding longer distances, I now scale the past performance program times by multiplying the 1-1/16 Final times by 16/17 ...
....and the final (listed) Quarter times by 4/5. This allows me to compare the times numbers for races at 1-1/16 times to 1 mile for pace and speed trends.

This is sloppy/lazy way of programming but it works fairly well (for me) but only for the 1-1/16 mile race distance.

I would not try this 'scaling' on any other distance but have had good success at Saratoga.

Example.... Jun 13 Race 6 at STGA on Sat 6/13

#3 Aussie Reactor A has his last race times in a 1-1/16 race converted to a mile time as so:

Final T = 119.8 * 16/17 = 112.8 (1:52-4)

and 4thQ = 34.6 * 4/5 = 27.7

Compare these with #5 Abbeylara's (the Favorite) last ppline at 1 mile of 1:53-1, 28-4

Aussie won $10.40

Just saying.... don't let those strange looking times fool ya.

You know, if these tracks want to act like t-breds by racing at > 1 mile
distances, then the the industry needs to jack out 1 mile times, like the t-breds. Having to interpolate the last 5/16 or last 1/4 for the lack of real data is a joke. I avoid playing the race with serious money.

for the mile and a quarter races, the last quarters are now properly reported in the pps...I'm not sure about the mile and a sixteenth races, they have just shown up...
