He'll be missed. He knew this sport.

Here's one of his columns re my all-time favorite:

Very shocked. I must admit that I'm a Steve Haskin devotee and enjoy his trips down memory lane. In fact, every morning after I check PA, I check out his blog to see if he wrote anything.

I didn't see this coming. Very strange circumstances. I subscribe to the Bloodhorse digital version for no other reason that to support good writers like him. I am stunned.

He is not retiring, only leaving Bloodhorse. Hopefully he can resurface somewhere that will appreciate his talents.

Agree...

Hopefully, we will be able to read his commentary somewhere else.

He wrote a nice comment on an American Pharoah writeup that I did on Facebook.

Seems to be a good guy as well.

I wonder if there's a deeper reason for why Haskin isn't working for them anymore.

Steve has been embedded with American Pharoah for the last 6 weeks. I saw him hug Ahmed Zayat after the Belmont. That's not the kind of thing you see a reporter or a journalist do.
He already did Baffert's biography and my money is on him spending the next few months penning a book about American Pharoah and the Triple Crown.
Just a guess. No actual info. Just makes too much sense to me.

Sounds like a good guess .
I don't know if he had a contract with BH but some media including
publishing have a clause that you cannot do the same work elsewhere
for a period of time .
He has been doing this for a long time too perhaps he will retire or
like you said , a book . His writing is a favorite of many who follow the
sport. Wonderful work .

I loved his book "Tales of the Triple Crown" especially the one about Stage Door Johnny and Arts and Letters being neighbors until they died in their 30's. He will be missed.

He once wrote an article on Dr Fager that sent chills down my spine. I wish I still had it.

Good news. It never made any sense why he left.

I'm going to continue my Bloodhorse Subscription.
