sq's posts got me thinking, I don't know how to set up a poll, maybe someone who does could.

What is the greates sports movie of all time?

Tough tough choice, but I think I'd have to go with Rocky.

all you had to do was check the box on the message above...

it was at the bottom..........asking if you wanted a poll.

then it takes you to a page to put in your questions..........

Some I would consider to include in a poll:

Remember the Titans
The Natural
Let It Ride (it is a horse racing board!)
Hoosiers
Brian's Song
Rudy

Just a few off the top of my head...

I'd add The Replacements. Keanu Reeves, Gene Hackman, and Jon Favreau, among others. Good cast, lots of good humor.

That hockey one with Paul Neuman. With the two monster twins playing with their Tonka toys in the motel room.

Also:

Oh, and DOH!!! Seabiscuit!

The Hustler:

"You're like a one-way train going the wrong way on one-way track."

"Some of the most beautiful women in the world can be seen at the track on Derby Day."

"OK Fast Eddie, let's shoot some pool!"

The Hansons were just interviewed on Fox Sports Across America tonight ... they are still skating.

BTW, that movie was "loosely" based on a hockey club local to where I grew up, the Johnstown Jets. A place more famous for its floods than hockey.

About a professor that invents a tonic (to put on baseballs) that repels wood.

Yes, I loved that movie....doesn't he bare hand a line drive at the end to ruin his career? Fortunate because he's out of tonic if I remember right.

There was one about baseball back in the 40's with William Bendix as an umpire who used eye droops and then was seeing double, so would call twice "Strike-Strike!"
I think they called him Two-call Kelly or something like that.

The actor was right, but the wrong movie.

Rocky V.

Another good one nobody's mentioned yet is The Scout. Albert Brooks and Brendan Fraser star, and a bunch of big-leaguers make cameos, such as Keith Hernandez and Ozzie Smith (This was the time of the strike, so they were available for such a movie.). Very funny movie. Gotta love Albert Brooks's character trying to get hit by a bus in Mexico!

How about:

1. A League of Their Own - "There's no crying in baseball." I would have loved to be the trainer or batboy.

Most auto racing movies are cheesy but liked:

2. Grand Prix
3. Days of Thunder - (Even though most of the movie you wanted to slap Tom Cruise back to reality)

4. Raging Bull

:)

I remember that film!

"Kill the Umpire!" it was called and he was "Two-Call Johnson."

Haven't seen it since I was a kid and I laughed my arse off. Today I'd probably think it was juvenile since there was a lot of slapstick in it. (Like the scene where he has trouble with the chest protector and is bouncing between the bench and his locker like a pinball.)

The Natural was awful, one of the worst because Hollywood changed the ending from the classic novel by Bernard Malamud in which he makes out. That home run scene was the hokiest thing I've ever watched on film and lost a lot of respect for Robert Redford after that.

Babe Ruth Story (the original) was also truly awful as well as full of errors and made up stuff that was bad by even Hollywood's standards.

I did like The Dizzy Dean Story with Dan Dureya even tho that one probably also had a ton of crap in it.

Fear Strikes Out about Jimmy Piersall (I'm crazy and I have the papers to prove it) was good.

The best?

Raging Bull
Eight Men Out
Bull Durham
Pride of the Yankees
Day at the Races (Marx Brothers). "Go High-Hat!"

(The Hustler if you count pool as a sport)
The Sting was a sports film in a way, since they pulled one over on Robert Shaw using a horse race.

Anyone remember the original Angels in the Outfield with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris?

Andicap,
I'm no one to question your knowledge of the above mentioned sports movies. But in the one that I mentioned I still like it nonetheless when toward the end of the movie Bendix(playing Ruth)answers back to someone with"Sue Baseball?....that'd be like sueing the Church.".Now as to whether Babe Ruth actually ever said such a thing I have no idea. But I thought it was really neat all the same.If that makes me a naive person then so be it.

any boxing fans who haven't seen "When We were Kings" should check it out, documentary about the rumble in the jungle. Great commentary from Norman Mailer and George Plimpton...

Major League--a classic
Hoosiers
Sea Biscuit- a classic even non racing fans liked
Caddyshack--I know its about golf but I don't really consider it a sports movie but it was hilarious

You have a point. You have to judge a movie for its entertainment
value alone, not its historical accuracy.

I think the top 'feel-good' sports movie ever has to be Hoosiers..

Top Comedy - Tie - Major League and Happy Gilmore

Seabiscuit was excellent too

Still have no seen Miracle.. Although I heard it was great.
