Maybe CJ or someone can shed some light on these 7 furlong Keeneland races. Why are the times so slow, what would be a fast time??, and what is the true distance?

It says it is 7f 184 feet.

I'm guessing that if it was at 7f then it would be too close to the main track and you might have some horses want to turn left out of the gate.

Maybe a temporary inside rail that runs for about 100ft from where the track and "tail" meet?

For years Keenland has run 7f races and *7f (about 7furlongs).
Last time I did pars there was approx. a 4&1/5 sec difference in the final times.
The about distance being slower.
DRF usually denotes the (about) distance as *7.

Kee, now NYTRA - if you can run the real distance, why do you need the minor-league about distances?

What's next, about payoffs?

Just a side note.
Since Keenland recently switched to the new state of the art .... dirt track,
and with a short meet and lots of bad weather, the par is definitely short-sampled.

I started a thread a few weeks back about how the BRIS charts no longer designate this distance....you have to look at the track record to know if its 7f or about 7f

BRIS charts also no longer designate GrStks races either...they just list them as a Stk and the purse value....the Kent Dby will be listed as Stk2000k.

I suppose it wont be long before turf rail settings are no longer listed too.

I don't know why they run that distance, but I know it has been run for as long as I remember. I doubt it has to do with the main track and the gap because 7f is run as well.

Equibase charts now have the full race conditions, along with the PP running lines as well as traditional lengths ahead. so BRIS chart are pretty much the red-headed step sister of racing products. No need to settle for the people who don't care, aka BRIS.
