There are laws and requirements for private companies to encrypt sensitive personal data which includes social security numbers.
But it appears the federal government does not have to encrypt SSNs.
Just another example of do as a say but not do as I do.
F'ng wasters of tax dollars with more surely to be thrown down a rat hole. The state of California has squandered billions, that's right, billions of dollars on failed IT projects. Given the level of incompetence in the federal government, they should be able to reach trillions without breaking a sweat.
