What is the preferred surface for betting for most here? I prefer Turf racing over dirt for a few reasons. The first is price Turf races seem to pay better than dirt.more longshots either win or hit the board on grass.Second s field size the fields are bigger which is probably why the prices are better. At Belmont you rarely get 5-6 horse fields on turf with an even money a 2-1 and 5/2.

Turf for me these days due to field size and competitiveness. Too many dirt races are horrible betting contests.

Turf.
Hands down.

Also the way turf races are run slow early then a sprint to the wire makes position -don't get blocked on the inside-more important and the track inner outer makes a big deal.

Turf. But I wouldn't overly depend on this method. There are enough double digit results, when the horses brakes out on top and doesn't stop. It's a good idea to get acquainted to an earl pace #. There are several tracks that are counter to the idea of the late rush.

In most cases, certainly Turf

Turf.

There are dirt race factors that everyone & their brother knows. Exclusively use those things in turf races & you'll turn into the guy who discovers a new vocabulary.

I always look at ep and lp its always a combination of both. The jocks just ride mostly slow then fast. Watch today we'll get 3 wire jobs now that I opened my mouth.

I still prefer dirt, but my feeling are changing now that I figure out to pick a winner on the turf every so often. It is certainly a lot more fun and profitable to pick a horse in an 11 horse race than a 5 horse race. When the 3rd betting choice is going off at 5/2, it is hard to play that race. Unless they figure out a way to get more runners in dirt races, I will be forced into becoming a turf specialist even means unlearning 50 years of dirt handicapping.

They don't have to try and win it on the lead. Often the horse that shows early pace, will be backed off of it, and comes late in the race. It's just important to understand the horse may be able to do it from anywhere, front or back, and not to just focus on late closers. Because there are about 100 examples this year where horses with early pace blows by everyone late. And they blow up the tote board. Those double digit horses are really nice to hit.

I like both surfaces equally as a fan, but I have way fewer value oriented insights into turf racing. So I mostly play dirt.

Don't care what they run on, I handicap certain conditions, dirt or turf. Definitely the better betting races are run on the turf though.

6f or 7f DIRT races backing horses who "popped and stopped" going a route on the TURF in its previous race (trainer's conditioning move).

Let's not forget first time turf. Especially if coming off bad dirt sprints and stretching out With decent turf breeding.you can get big prices with these.

Anything over 1 mile on turf - especially when the surface is anything but firm.

6 1/2 furlongs down the Hill Side turf Course at Santa Anita.

Just rolls off the tongue doesn't it?

Dirt by a country mile (on a dirt road) for me.

My turf figs stink! :D
Handicapping is just easier for me on dirt
