The Queen Anne is being billed as a Solow vs Able Friend match race that I think there is plenty of value on the others.

If Able Friend can handle the hill to the finish, they're all racing for second. He's already shown whether the pace is fast (as it was in the HK Mile) or slow (as it was in the Champions Mile) he can canter past the field while not being asked and come home under 22 seconds.

From what I've have heard from Darren Flindell (ex-HK race caller) he ranks Able Friend right up there with Silent Witness in terms of special horses. Race may very well be for 2nd.

Those two look a class above the rest here.
Should run 1-2 at short odds.

2-1 right now on Able Friend. That is value. Let's see where it goes

Seems strange to have the most interesting race of the meet
going first on Day 1, but that's how it is for me.
Solow is going to take some beating - too short to bet, though.

3 plays. Just put $50 win on Able Friend at a crazy 2-1
Race 2: 14/5+8 and 8+14 exacta box
Race 4: Straight exacta 6-4 but may cancel if price too low.

I think 2-1 is an underlay on a runner who's going over an undulating course with no turns...trying to beat Able Friend

He's close to 3-1 with everyone.

Pay close attention to next race if you are betting the final race today. Many runners in this have faced those in the Windsor.

Ooops, Ward runner out of 2nd. Other combinations I like not paying anything worthwhile in a field of this size. This just became a watch and see if anything can be learned for the 6th

Upgrades to Steady Pace (20) and Nelspruit (11) and maybe Areen (4) who had a bit of a trip in that race. Downgrade to Washington DC (21) off that run
20/4+18 in race 6

The :3: . 3rd time off the layoff for Group 1 runner last year. Jockey switch today to Spencer who was aboard for this one's best race in the G1 Coolmore last year. Price should be right at 15-1 ML>

Gleneagles is odds-on in the next, and I'll just watch.
I have a play in each of the last 2 races, but can only bet one of them.
R5 :13: Broxbourne (hopefully 10-1 or higher)
R6 Wesley Ward's #26 Ruby Notion is stuck in "the field" for betting purposes.
I think this filly and Joel Rosario have a big shot to win, but the 10 or 12-1
you can get in the UK will be down to 3-1, or less, in the US. Pass.....

I played the 4 and 20 to win and in an exacta box. Looked like the winner came in on the 4 late and they bumped pretty hard. But they don't take down much over there and there wasn't even an inquiry.
How hard was it to toss in the winner in the exacta and maybe even the trifecta?
Too hard, apparently. :(

Too busy at work today so only had a chance to put one bet down today on the Prince of Wales. Tried to get Gailo Chop to steal but nothing left at the end. Definition of a tough trip and beat for Grey Gatsby who looked much the best to me, though thought Free Eagle may also have moved just a tad early.

Busy at work today, too.
Few trainers you could trust with a horse off such a long layoff.
Dermot Weld is one of them. Nice win for Free Eagle.
I agree that Grey Gatsby was unlucky, though.

Looked at 5 and 6. Said no way on 30 horse field as well. These high level handicaps are really tough races. In 6 I just couldn't find a horse I liked enough to win. Gold Cup tomorrow is one I always look forward to.

My favorite day of the meet. Potential plays in the first 4 races
1: 5+6/9

3: (2+8)
4: 3/1+10
Some may end up too short on the probables so could cancel one or two.

Nothing to see. Was right to use Limato and Adaay did well but no score as Tiggy Wiggy now looking more the 2yo wonder that won't move on at 3. No shame in a 1000 Guineas 3rd but this should have been a cutback to a better distance for her.

:11: Muhaarar was good value on the pari-mutuel @ 23-1
His odds in the UK were less than half that @ 11-1.
Betting overlaid longshots on the pari-mutuel is the only way to go.
Trouble is, the odds often come down late due to major fluctuations.
At least the pools are bigger for Ascot.
I haven't had a bet there since Tuesday. :(
:bang: Dohh.....final odds returned on Muhaarar were 12-1.
He was 23-1 when he crossed the wire on the TVG website.
That's why I seldom bet UK/Irish racing.

Behind the top 3 but did not embarrass herself. Not a bad job at all. A little less early pace and she might have been able to steal it.

Group 2 win at Ascot and a Group 1 second to a very strong horse in France. It was worth the shot. Don't think you'll see a return to France though.
