Credit to Baffert for getting AP ready and to Espinoza for delivering a perfect trip.

The only disappointment I had was that the rest of the field let him get an easy lead and run slow fractions. I would have liked to have seen AP tested a bit more. It wasn't the "classiest" race ever on the Jim Quinn class scale given that AP was never really challenged. His only minor challenge came from Materiality who faded early.

Negatives aside, the final time of 2:26 and change was more than respectable. It looks like AP picked up the pace in the final quarter -- which is unusual for dirt racing. Baffert did a great job getting him fit.

AP is a deserving champion. Looking forward to seeing how he does the rest of the year and especially looking forward to his freshman year as a sire.

AP hit 24's in every quarter. All fractions were between 24.2 and 24.8 seconds. The last half mile was 49.8 seconds. AP was out in 1:13.4 and back home in 1:13.3.....THat's tenths....None of the other horses could move against that.

D. Wayne Lukas always said you just need to run 12 second eighths to win the Derby. Probably the same with the Belmont.

The fractions seemed average to me, but I wasn't the one doing the running. :D

The early fractions were slightly faster last year, but the final time was slower. Maybe last year was Fast Early / Slow Late.

Two years ago the early fractions were blazing:
23.11, 46.66, 1:10.95, 1:36.47, 2:03.12, 2:30.07
Fast Early / Slow Late

I would like to have seen Fast Early / Fast Late, but that sort of race shape is run by superstars -- like Secretariat:

23 3⁄5, 46 1⁄5, 1:09 1⁄5, 1:34 1⁄5, 1:59, 2:24

This year looked Average Early / Average Late:

24.06, 48.83, 1:13.41, 1:37.99, 2:02.33, 2:26.65

It will be interesting to see AP's speed figure.

Good ride by Victor. He didn't panic and knew how much horse he had underneath him. He paced the horse perfectly and considering the final time and sectionals, I'd say it was a legit performance.

Beautiful event to watch. I'm just hoping it gives racing a boost. Also, kudos to PACE for nailing the tri cold!.
