I posted a while back that I am going to Arlington in the Fall which I still plan on doing. I am excited to say that I am going to Kentucky. What are some of the places that I should see if i want to have a good time. I want to visit some of the farms as well as the Museum of the Horse with the Calumet Trophy Collection. Any thoughts are welcome. I am going from June 20-24.

Are you going to be in both the Lexington and Louisville areas, or only in the vicinity of Lexington (where the Museum of the Horse is located)? In addition to the many horse farms close to Lexington, Keeneland Race Course on Versailles Road on the west side of Lexington (close to the airport) is also open for simulcasting, and has a gift shop. In my opinion, the grounds themselves there are worth a visit for a racing fan (even if there is no live racing going on). And Churchill Downs in Louisville (which has the Kentucky Derby Museum, in addition to the track itself) ends its Spring meeting on 27 June, with racing Thursday through Sunday, which would include 20-21 June within your visit window.

I would also suggest the Kentucky Horse Park just on the north side of Lexington and, like overlay, Museum at Churchill. Louisville is only 70 miles from Lexington. I would recommend taking the bourbon trail tour as well since there is a lot of history in that area and you might even get to sample some if you want. Lots to see here but your window is pretty tight so prioritize and filter it down.

You can go just a few miles away from the Horse Park and see Silver Charm and Game on Dude enjoying their retirement at Old Friends Farm. There are other former racing stars there also (Amazombie, Gulch Sarava) and you can get up close and personal(feed them) if you want.

You should go to Keeneland for simulcast since it will no longer exist after next month.

Even if you're not a Bourbon fan two very close places may be of interest. In Lexington itself there is Alltech with great tours of both the Bourbon distillery and Beer plant (They call it a Brewstillery). They make a great "Bourbon Barrel Ale" and some other great drinks and Town Branch Boubon.
15 minutes from Keeneland is Woodford Reserve Distillery and the drive is nice as it goes by many famous farms. There's good food there as well. Both have very informative web sites:

Also check out the Red Mile, just south of Downtown Lexington. They aren't racing in June (open 7/26) but the facility is in the midst of a huge renovation and they do simulcasting, other breeds now but taking over all simulcasting in July.

Any red blooded American who has even a passing interest in baseball should go here.....

And try to take in a Bats(AAA- Reds) game. I am told Louisville Slugger Field is a real nice ball yard

Old Friends is such a quality place. I think Mr. Baffert just donated about 50K from his winnings this past weekend. Should keep 'Charm and Game on Dude in carrots for a little while.

Unless you have no interest in bourbon, I would visit a distillery. I am partial to Four Roses so that's the tour I went on, but it's a relatively small outfit compared to some.
