Okay American Pharoah will face 7 in the Belmont. Since Pensive became the first Triple Crown failure in 1944, Seven horses have faced fields of 7 or less: 1944-6, 1958-7, 1964-7, 1969-5, 1979-7, 1997-6, and 2003-5. You never know American Pharoah might get beat.

Umm....and this is relevant how?

If I catch your drift, I'm thinking you're saying
AP has a better chance of winning in a bigger field?

Hop on my back, and call me Trigger........

I took the same stats, but ONLY filtering with when the crown was on the line. Whenever the crown was on the line, we never had a coronation when there were 9 or more starters in the field.

No problem, sir.

I think they would like to face around three (or less) rivals.
There wouldn't be an asterisk after his name if he won.

I wouldn't mind seeing a walkover, to get this drought over and done with.

The most and the least each Triple Crown winner has faced is between 3-8. A full field kills.

Absolutely

We've reached the point where we'll take a TC any way we can get one.
Then we can move on.

What makes me mad is how many people say "Oh, Well, Secretariat never faced a full field. He only faced 5 in the Belmont" Excuse Me. Who cares? The fact that he ran that race in 2:24 flat is incredible. I think it would be awesome to see a horse beat 19 horse in the Derby, 13 in both the Preakness and Belmont.
