had to laugh at this part:

Reminds me of the scene from Goodfellas when Polly takes over a restaurant, runs up the bills, cashes out, and they light a match. The only difference in this story, the Feds light the match.

polly? really governor gill? :faint:

Penn Gaming just bought the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas for 360 million dollars.
It is possible that they are winding down their horse racing part of the business.

Just an offhanded opinion, but casino companies saw horseracing as a way of getting their foot in the door. Having to run the tracks was the necessary evil to getting the gambling license. Penn National bought Charles Town, got VLTs installed, and next thing you know it's a full blown casino. Massachusetts gave the casino license to the company that said they wouldn't run a race meet at Suffolk and not the one who promised to invest in modernizing the track. Iowa casino companies have petitioned to let them out from underneath having to support dog racing. The plan was never to save horseracing anywhere - it was to get the casino foothold where they could. They offered a dying industry a burst of sugar and they got the same result - a quick bump of energy followed by the crash.

Wonder if someone will buy the track?

And where would these trainers go if Penn closed its doors?

Due to the shortage of horses these days anyone will take them that can.

Penn National has been shrouded in corruption since I can remember. And Charles Town is not far behind. Racinos saved both tracks, but the greed at both places is overwhelming and the corruption increased. Reminds me of the plight of many Eastern seaboard tracks in the '70s.

By the way, that was "Paulie" in Goodfellas.

What is the general consensus here of this guy? Maybe I'm easily swayed, but he seems determined and believable.

Tracks like Penn and Chucktown should close. Followed by some others. Its the day and age of the simulcast. The Big tracks can bring in more horses that way and put up better cards.

some rather ominous words from mr gill at the end of today's message:

This is the most important video that I will ever make and may be the last one you see. I understood the risks. I miscalculated your resolve. I will accept what happens to me, because I know that I have done the best I could to make a difference.

hopefully he cleans up pen before these sinister nh forces shut him down....

I hope he stays the course and this thing brings some people down. Corruption at the tracks and in the racing office might be more than on the backside.

wells that would be a lot of corruption, but in tied to the tracks mr gill pieces it all together in perhaps the most impressive bit of crime fighting since black dymamite solved the riddle of anaconda malt liquor. except instead of making you go wooooooo and giving you "little Richard" penn national makes you go boo hoo and gives you little bankroll.

should I fail to land the role of ronda rousey's love interest in the new version of road house , i'm considering writing a (straight to hrtv) racing version of stallone's arm-wrestling classic over the top.

of course the word "top" will have a whole new meaning but the film will end the same with "mike gill" (instead of linc hawks) becoming "world champion of horse racing" as the final $20,000 horse in his barn crosses the line first in a $4,000n1y at penn national. :)

It's actually more like Jose Canseco. He was mocked and laughed at but when the truth about PED's came out he wasn't lying.

I thought Gill was crazy too with all of these video's but a lot of what he has said over the past 2 years has come true.

Gill was on Stein again today. Claimed 2 more vets are going to be indicted. Said a bunch of other stuff a lot heavier than that.

Still listening to replay. I liked the comment so far about 6 vets have been indicted or accused but only 1 trainer. JMO, that trainer must have a HUGE stable or a lot of messed up horses.

When or how will the bettors become whole since this has been going on for years?

I asked this question in another thread ...... why do people continue to bet Penn since this corruption appears widespread?

If someone is trying or I suspect they are trying to cheat me, I wouldn't have any dealings with them.

What's the attraction?

Some of us HAVE stopped betting at Penn National. I believe, but cannot prove, that the entire PA Racing Commission is corrupt from top to bottom and it doesn't stop there.

PA is among the top 5 states in corruption. Period.

I don't think it's related but just read a Google headline (searched and no longer on main page) that Pennsylvania's State Attorney General's law license has been suspended.

But, why are people still betting there?

When I recently checked, it was about $800k p/day.

Is it some form of money laundering?

imo (ag) kane isn't (shall we say) able. ;)

apparently mr gill disagrees?

the betting situation probably hit rock bottom in the 2000s when supers were winning at unprecedented rates. it wasn't that the races couldn't be handicapped but their (approximately correctly bet) favorites were taking up such a large percentage of the lines that it left little meat on the bone for other overlays.

My understanding from Mr. Gill's assertions that Penn trainers, jockeys Commission, track mgmt., FBI etc., are basically colluding to take the bettors monies. I see you don't necessarily are buying everything he's claiming but with the indictment of vets and the trainer something is amiss at Penn. I mean the FBI??

no, i'm not pickin' up everything he's puttin' down and i also don't agree with a lot of players here that it's a totally unplayable track either.

on the other hand i don't think it's any kind of racing utopia like some of these pen apologists out there do.

indeed he's all over the place and mr stein needs to ask some tougher questions in these interviews.

for starters: who exactly is/was losing all this money to this big pen group? offshore Asian whales? how big are these pools? winnings on $3.00 Stephanie beattie horses were divided up by dozens of trainers, jockeys, agents, bookies, track managers, owners, and politicians??

also i'd like to hear both mr gill and mr stein elaborate on their otb closing theories but they were obviously never at places like Williamsport and chambersburg if they think it's a slam dunk that they were profitable. no way.
