To those who follow harness the name of Carl Allen is truly one of an icon in the business. He suffered an injury in a qualifify race and was at home recovering when he fell and broke his hip and this lead to his death. He has many family members still active and I express my sorrow to them at his passing. In all of his years of working with and breaking young trotters (which was his forte) he showed a skill and abiltiy far beyond many. There are a lot of "family" in harness and we lost a great one.

Man is injured in a tractor mishap

FELLOWSHIP - A 74-year-old Fellowship man was critically injured on
Monday after being run over by heavy-duty tractor, Marion County
authorities said.

His condition was unknown late Monday, as Marion County Fire-Rescue and
hospital authorities, citing a federal law designed to protect patient
confidentiality, declined to release information about him.

The man was struck by a front-end loader while working at Golden Cross
Farm, 12662 N.W. U.S. 27, Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Heather Danenhower
said. It was unclear whether he was driving and fell off and then was
run over, or if someone else was behind the wheel when the accident
occurred, she said.

Danenhower said the victim sustained "severe, massive" head and chest
injuries. Despite that, he was still alive when transported to the
emergency room at Munroe Regional Medical Center.

Sheriff's investigators were on the scene on Monday, as authorities were
trying to sort out differing witness accounts of what happened,
according to Danenhower. Sheriff's spokesman Lenny Uptagraft could not
be reached for comment.

County records show that the 195-acre farm belongs to Carl and Mae Jean
Allen. Rod and Dawn Allen are also listed as owners. The farm, which
sits in the heart of northwest Marion County's horse-farm region, is
gated.

Attempts to reach the Allen family on Monday were unsuccessful.

Danenhower said Fire-Rescue officials were called to Golden Cross Farm
around 2:30 p.m. The victim was apparently digging to install a drainage
ditch. When rescuers arrived, they found him about 10 feet from the
front-end loader.

A medevac helicopter was called about 2:45 p.m., Danenhower said. But it
was waved off when the victim started having a heart attack. Emergency
workers aboard the helicopter are not allowed to transport heart attack
victims because they cannot perform necessary procedures while in
flight, she added.

The victim was instead taken to Munroe, where he arrived about 3:30
p.m., Danenhower said.
