Are we at the point of producing cloned race horses?

Just a random thought?

I'm pretty sure if we do, Jim Rome will purchase one.

The point is, it would kill horse racing as we know it.

A huge black market would exist and the required registration would go bye bye or have a massive overhaul if they wanted to survive.

Just my opinion.

Not how cloning works anyway. No guarantee of performance.

If you have time, read or listen to this episode of 'This American Life' with a story about cloning a prize bull.

Cloned animals are not like identical twins. They can be very different.

They clone race mules. So far I'd have the guesss the results have been disappointing. The clones have not been as good as the originals. So there's more to it than genes.

There was a lawsuit just decided on this issue in the quarter horse world. A couple of breeders sued the AQHA because they wanted to register and race cloned horses which the AQHA forbid. In the 5th Circuit, the Court ruled for the AQHA. I think this decision will give the AQHA and the Jockey Club some ammunition to prevent racing of cloned horses for quite awhile.

http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/291/transcript Got to have a better chance of getting a good horse than you have by breeding two champion horses.

Bloodlines have their time, eventually die out & fade from the past performances. And then you have new ones.

That's they way it's always been, it's the way it should always be. Even if it came to be permitted one day-
Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

As much as I hate to say this, that was actually a clever line...hell must be freezing over as I type.

You do not seem to have much experience with environment and identical twins.

Don't you realize a crappy trainer or jockey can ruin a champion?

Yes, a shitty jockey or trainer can ruin a good horse, just like a great trainer and great jockey can bring out the best in a great horse at the right time.
