This does not surprise me at all. Banks may cash a few checks and take in a few cash deposits but, for the most part, they just do bookkeeping. I doubt that there's more than $10,000 at any branch at any time. That may seem a tidy sum to a desperate man but not worth the risk to life, limb and freedom. Parker would never go for it today.

What kind of world is this we are living in, where the banks have no money? What's a self-respecting bank robber to do?

I read of a Scandinavian country, forget which one, where so few people carry cash that the government issued credit card acceptors to the homeless to facilitate begging.
