One of my fondest racing memories.....made a nice score that day.
He was a Tin Man with a big heart.

I was at Arlington that day, bet Cacique and couldn't believe what I was seeing from The Tin Man. Nothing but respect for the 9yo and how he handled horses half his age.

A classy warrior indeed and I believe the richest son of Affirmed .
Wish he had many more years but it's good to read how well cared
for he was . Much deserved .
RIP !

Sad day indeed. RIP brave one.
Side note: guess the rider gave us a foreshadowing of what was to come a bit later, eh?
He certainly didn't whip him 32 times either. Best I could count was around 5 or so.
Then again it was merely the Arlington Million.

That wonderful Million Day I went to the backside with a buddy from Florida that morning. ( Stopping in to see another friend's horse.} Upon return to the hotel in order to get cleaned up for the afternoon in the Million Room suite--- trainer Richard Mandella got in the elevator with us up from the lobby. I recognized him and took advantage of the opportunity to speak with him. I knew he only had shipped in with one horse-The Tin Man. I simply couldn't resist asking the hall of famer how his horse looked because i correctly assumed he was backside with his entry that morning as well. Mr Mandella said that "he looked good"...and he was excited because --" he can win" All we needed for our confirmation. The little front runner got a soft half mile pace on the lead and he was gone....leaving all the euros in his trail. I vividly remember the high fives,... smiles... and laughs to this very day. Had him "keyed" in nearly every exotic...which paid for entire our three day weekend trip to Arlington Heights. A glorious memory. Such a gritty little horse...and thus far my very fondest day live at the track. RIP....
