I see 5-1 6-1, 8-1, 9-1 and 10-1; but I never see a 7-1 morning line...Seems strange

Lots of oddities when it comes to line setting.
Never see 25-1, either.

Btw, I have yet to see 9-1 anywhere.

There is (was?) a track around that regularly had 7-1 MLs, can't remember which though.

Because seven is a lucky number and that tracks don't want to influence the betting.

For the record, I just made that shit up.

Our good ole friends 9,11 and 13-1 deserve a shout out as well.

Someday, someone with an ounce of flair, pizzazz, or who cares about tradition, will come along and spice this dud up. It's been the same old thing forever.

It is beyond belief too me that the track management stays with these same old reruns and nobody with an ounce of pull can have a vision to break out of this 1960's crap. I mean, I Love Lucy was great then but it might not do so well today.

Wake up Management!!

There is very little difference in the points system a ML odds makers uses once you get above the 6/1 range. 6/1= 14 pts, 8/1= 11 pts, 10/1= 9 pts, 12/1= 8 pts, 15/1= 6 pts.

This is a joke, right?

Fonner Park uses 25-1.

I remember Nick Zito was none too happy when Mike Battaglia made Birdstone 50-1 in the Derby. There might be subtle pressure on the ML makers to keep the longshots in striking distance even if they don't figure.

This has come up before, and I believe we determined that it was at Woodbine where 7/1 M/L's were often posted.

As far as what the poster immediately above me wrote, I know that for years "back in the day," NYRA M/L makers NEVER made a horse higher than 20/1 in the program, and I'm sure Zito (from Queens) was steeped in that tradition.
