Our hero's Kansas coach at the time of reference was George Sauer (senior), an ex-pro player and career college and pro coach. He even coached at Navy for a spell if I remember it right.

But, he may have been better known in later years as the father of the great George Sauer Jr., who was a top receiver for the New York Jets when they won the Super Bowl.

George Sauer was one of my favorite Jets players growing up in the 60s. I was truly disturbed by his death in 2013.
