The free version of HandicapperPlus for Windows has been updated.

Previously, several of us here considered having a "black box" handicapping software competition. It was hard to come to any ground rules, including exactly what constitutes "blackbox handicapping software."

This newest version of HandicapperPlus is as close as my software is going to get to being a black box. Basically, if you set your win percentage and bankroll using the built in Kelly Tool, then select the option to "Offer Betting Advice" and use "Only high confidence races", this software will pick which races to bet and tell you which straight bets to make on those races. It still doesn't pick the exotics, but it WILL tell you which horses are contenders for the exotics, and which exotics they're contenders for.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Windows Version of Handicapper Plus, it's free handicapping software that imports Formulator, Brisnet Single Data, and JCapper files for instantaneous picks in tip sheet format. Download it at handicapperplus.com or click here (ftp://atoznet.com/pub/HandicapperPlus/HandicapperPlusDesktop.zip) to get it now.

For those of you who already use HandicapperPlus, be sure to "Check for Updates" (Under the "Help" menu) and get the newest version.

Please note: YES, the software is completely 100% free, however, you do have to register the software in order to generate a personalized key if and only if you want to use the betting advice function. Also note, only the WINDOWS version is free. The Android version is not free, and last time some people flamed me because that other version is not free... I'm referring only to the Windows version in this post, so, please, note this.

Other programs are less "top heavy" in handicapping, many are more customizable, and some have far, far more features... but I will pit the HandicapperPlus software against handicapping software at any price point out there based on amount of money won by using the built-in HandicapperPlus algorithm as the judging criteria.

PS: If you enjoy using HandicapperPlus, please do contact me and let me know. Your emails and comments are the only reason I continue to make the software available for public use.

Hi Texas Dolly,

I think I remember you.

I can't really assist with exporting files from your product, but if you are able to get the data files, we should be able to open them. Send me an email at TonyMLake@aol.com and I will try to help you.

Thanks

I tried open and import but always get an error message.
I guess your note means you were able to actually process a race card .
Thanks

Handicapper Plus doesn't import .csv files, only .drf, .jcp, and the files exported from Formulator (there are several of those).

Those buttons have different functions. The "Open" button opens files saved in HandicapperPlus format. The "New" button creates a HandicapperPlus file.

The "Import" button does just that: imports Formulator, JCapper, or Brisnet Singled Data PP files.

The .drf file is a csv file so I'm not sure what you mean. The ext is a drf but the file is in a csv format. The file I was trying to import had a drf ext and I called it a csv file in the earlier post.
But to be clear the file I tried to import had a .drf ext but it failed each time.

Thanks,

Ok, typically, a person would click "File->Import->Import Brisnet Single File PPs" and navigate to the file, then Click "Open" and the file should import automatically.

If you're having a specific problem at that point, email me or pm me and I'll try to help you figure out what the problem might be. If you have a specific error message, that will definitely help. Send that to me and we'll take a look at it.

Thanks for asking!

Thank you for the update. By mixing your algorithm with my custom one, I have been getting interesting results with triple and super mixes. Originally I didn't pay much attention to the program seeing that it seemed so basic and something that I had monkeyed with over 20 yrs ago with speed number averaging, that I put it aside, but now my interest is piqued again. And the betting advice part of the program is another nice feature. Again, thanks.

Okay I think I see what happens. When it's downloaded for some reason it goes INSIDE Computrack's program . However the name of the program is there but it has to be "extracted" to show up. Weird.

i think you should make a separate folder exclusively to put your handicapper plus in and extract it
putting more than one software program in the same folder is poor "housekeeping" at the least, and lends itself to the problems your having.
i may be wrong, but from what i read into your comments that is the problem.
hope this helps

I post them myself, before the races, all the time... hehe... here's a link to last Saturday:

As you can see, the HandicapperPlus Algorithm hit most bets it suggested for a modest profit. The week before that it did take a small loss, but I didn't realize it was raining... NO rain... this program don't do mudders. However, the week before that is posted too... as you can see, The algorithm was up again.

If you want to post some of HandicapperPlus's picks, go ahead, but if you use the ones from the HandicapperPlus Algorithm, check the option for 'Only "High Confidence" Races' - otherwise, the program isn't really suggesting you make the bet... Although it looks like YOUR algorithm is rocking it today.

For good Handicapper Plus Picks: Set your Kelly Tool to a 24% win percent. Select "Use My Win Percent." Set the Bankroll to $100. Set the Option to use only high confidence races, and turn on betting advice. Post the picks from the "HandicapperPlus Algorithm" Section.

For posting your algorithm, do whatever you want :^)

The forum administrator probably wants them posted in the Selections area.

That sounds like the thing to do, but I don't know how to make a separate folder . When downloading it only asks do you want to download or run. I've tried both ways, with the same result. I guess I could delete the Computrak program, but may want to use it again sometime.

Try downloading the .zipped version at ftp://atoznet.com/pub/HandicapperPlus/HandicapperPlusDesktop.zip instead of the .exe file. Then just drag the file out of wherever it downloads to into wherever you want to put it. Then right click on the file and select "Extract Here", if that's an option. Otherwise, email me or PM me.

For today, I looked at Albuquerque, Belmont, Churchill, and Turf Paradise. The program only wanted two races, both at Turf Paradise. I posted them in the Selections area.

Try not to judge me too harshly or generously on two races. I like to have at least 10-12 races, but, at least this gives you an idea of the type of output you can expect.

Have a good day at the track, folks.

Just uncheck "only high confidence races" in the options. If you're just playing around with the settings at this point, no harm done and you can see what different algorithm settings do.

To get the best results out of the program, you are saying to use the "high confidence" races, right? Have you checked the overall win % and roi of these "hi confidence" selections over a large number of races?

Being an exotics bettor, I haven't been using the program as suggested by it's creator. I have been using it to try to formulate an exotics algorithm, mixing morning line with speed number mixes. It seems to being showing some promise. Of course the program was formulated it seems to be geared to win/place bets at this time.

Sometimes.

All I cared about in designing the algorithm was coming out "up", so, that's the way it rolls out - frequently, as the case may be. There are a LOT of races on Derby Day, though... so, I think you'll like that.

Here's where the program stands, where it's headed, and why:

To calculate those win bets, the app is using the morning line odds for the horse predicted by the Handicapper Algorithm and calculated against the kelly criterion with a 24% hit ratio (sound hard to believe? That's why there are whole days the app will only find one or two races in all of North America... test it for yourself with $2 bets or on paper till you're sure).

Without knowing what the pools are for exotics, there's no satisfactory way to factor a kelly bet (that I've thought of).

My hope is that I will eventually be able to incorporate a live tote feed directly to the kelly tool (Thanks Pat, for the advice) and calculate live kelly bets on exotics and straights. There's actually a crappy and extremely primitive prototype without the live feed in the member's section of handicapperplus.com if anyone wants to try it out and make criticisms/suggestions.

For now, the app just tells which horses it calculates have a high percentage of PAYING for the exotic(s) it mentions.

Hello Tony;

Just wanted to let you know some of the board "lurkers" also use your program, as well. I use the TIPS program (possibly the only decent program RPM has ever produced, based on what I have seen). I started using Handicapper Plus as a final screen at times, when I need more convincing on a contender.
I was surprised to notice how often a horse that dominated on last 2 or even last 3 Bris SR's.....WASN'T the favorite. Good example of that--today 7/25 Arlington R4 #4 ALITTLEBITOFCANDY 4-1ML. Wasn't a turf specialist, but nobody else was either. Had hi last 3 SR's, back in 21 days, good trainer... and won pretty easily @ $6.60. Thanks for your work, Tony. In the past, when fooling with speed figs, I found taking the best 2 from the last 3 and averaging to be somewhat effective. You may want to consider adding this flexibility to the program.

I suggested such an idea to Tony a few months back. He told me that he might try to incorporate best 2 of last 3 into the program, but he might not have time until sometime this month (July) to work on it.

If you're using Windows, click on the "Help" menu, then "Check for Updates", or, just go to HandicapperPlus.com and download the newest version.

If your're using a phone or tablet, go the the PlayStore and search for HandicapperPlus... click the "Update" button that appears when the HandicapperPlus program is found.

Sorry, no Apple implementations yet.

I'll always take suggestions as to where to go with the app. Right now I'm incorporating a live tote board scanner that will (initially) watch for Kelly bets on straight wagers for down to the last second wagering power. If anyone wants to be a guinea pig, I mean beta tester, please let me know. Constructive feedback *really* helps.

Thanks :^)
