As I watched yesterday's full card from Delaware Park.. I found myself getting depressed with the win prices:

Race 1 - $3.00
R2 - $6.60
R3 - $6.80
R4 - $6.80
R5 - $5.20
R6 - $5.20
R7 - $3.20
R8 - $4.60
R9 - $2.60
R10 - (Arabian)

9 Races, not one horse over $7.00... Avg win price of $4.88

This is just getting depressing anymore..

Yeah, except that you expect those prices on a half mile harness track..

sq 764, Another thing about Delaware, that is difficult to understand, it is a slot track with many small fields. Wonder why? JimL

You got me there.. With the purses they have going here it doesn't make sense why there are so many short fields.. And when Monmouth opens, I am sure some will flock to there as well..

I think mostly its a matter of the big trainers keeping there horses spread out. A guy like Lake has a string in Maryland, Philly, New Jersey, New York, and Delaware. The big guys are buying up all the decent horses. Then they ship them out if necessary to get the easiest purse they can find. You just never used to have guys with stables so big in the past. I think that is a big part of the problem.

OR.... Maybe the other owners do not want to deal with Gill's horses.. He;'s already got 4 times the next best owner in earnings and starts..

I guess Delaware Park cracked and let him back in.

Honestly. Really. What the heck do you expect when 9 races in order have fields of 4, 6, 5, 6, 7, 6, 5, 7 and 7 horses? What, you want 25-1 shots with fields like this?!? Ain't happening bub.

SQ,

You might have a point about a lot of low win prices at Delaware Park. I was just looking at the longshot chart at the HTR website. Delaware Park is right near the bottom of their chart in terms of a longshot rating:

http://www.homebased2.com/km/longshotchart.htm

Oh well, there's lots of other tracks to play, if a bettor doesn't like a track with a big percentage of short-priced winners.

I like to look at this longshot chart at times for interest. Does anybody like to scan this chart now and then?

There are too many tracks in the northeastern corridor. Hate to see anyone lose their job, but for the industry's sake a little consolidation wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
Won't happen tho with slots -- tracks can stay profitable even if they run nothing but match races.

Man it just gets harder and harder.

Well Bel is even worse then Del, today's P6 payed $366. It's awfull, Hol is the place to look for value. I don't believe it, but, East Coast racing has almost no value.

The avg pick 4 at belmont over the last 10 racing days is $616.77. At hollywood over the last 9 days it's $4,136.62. This is the $1 price.

Aren't the pick 4's a little skewed though? I think the mean should be used.. COnsidering at Hollywood in the past 7 days there were pick 4's of $12,978 and $8500 (for a buck), as well as $140 and $194..

Seems like feast or famine there..
