View Full Version : Chimps have human rights too

A New York judge has granted two research chimps a writ of habeas corpus — "which is traditionally used to prevent people from being unlawfully imprisoned."

Welcome to Lalaland, where the Moonbats want to deny the rights of free speech, religion, and self defense to people, but grant personhood to chimps. I guess that makes sense if the chimps are your intellectual equals. I wonder if they think chimps should have the right to bear arms.

Apparently, after the ruling, the chimps were not available for comment.

This thread hits pretty close to home around here.

As far as a chimp's right to bear arms goes,
heck, everyone else is packing.
Why not monkeys? ;)

On a somewhat related (but selfish) topic, we're very proud of our 26-yr old son who just gave up his career as an architect to do set design (his dream) on the new Planet of the Apes movie.

We now take you back to your regularly scheduled program.

And I thought this type of "LaLa-Thinking" was the exclusive reserve of the state of the "fruitz and nutz"...

Probable will let them have a bigger soft drink too, I'll bet !... :jump:

Do they qualify for Obamacare?

More important... when will they get to vote?

More important... when will they get to vote?

It depends on whether or not they are documented. If not, they will have to wait for amnesty and a green card.

"Lalaland" is your friendly neighborhood university. Nobody here has heard of the "respected" Prof. Singer?

It looks like the judge couldn't take the heat and now says it wasn't supposed to be a writ of habeas corpus.

A New York judge who granted two research chimps a writ of habeas corpus, effectively recognizing them as legal persons, later amended her ruling, striking out the term "writ of habeas corpus." It is now unclear whether Hercules and Leo, the chimps at Stony Brook University, can challenge their detention.

The journal Science, which has been reporting on this story, notes that the order suggests "the court has made no decision on whether Hercules and Leo ... deserve to be treated as legal persons."

The original writ is linked below, suitable for framing. It lists the petitioner as "THE NONHUMAN RIGHTS PROJECT, INC., on behalf of HERCULES and LEO"
