Strange that for Gulfstream's 2 biggest days of the year (Fountain of Youth & Florida Derby) the track produces times more like it should be renamed Calder East. For all the years of people complaining that tracks were souped up on big days, now it's gone the opposite direction.

Trainers complain, but these deep tracks are great for the bettors....its a lot harder for heavy favorites to wire the field, you get some good results in the payouts department as well as a track where you can make notes for the future. Running on paved highways that turn the handicapping process into "whoever gets the lead wins" is not anyone's idea of races they want to handicap. When the track is fair, it helps everyone. Nobody cares if the track is "slow" they still pay you the same amount of money if you pick the winner.
