Hate to say it, but the trend is clear - unless you want to leave behind puzzled friends for years, you should have some instructions in your will to notify the social media sites you're active on to post a message about you're passing, as well as your email contacts.

A friend of mine in Alabama passed away a couple of years ago over Labor Day weekend, and I didn't find out until Breeder's Cup, through a mutual friend on my "horse racing" email list. He was active on a couple of online forums though, and the outpouring of grief and condolences for one was quite moving (Allman Brothers Band forum).

The alternative is to speculate, the way we do about whales....

Not trying to push anyone back onto social media if they are busy or temporarily/permanently fed up. I'm even thinking of banishing myself from all social media for a while - I get too upset and fed up with everything, and the stupidity of the masses, while also realizing that ignorance might just be bliss after all.

Sorry to hear that if that's the case with Jay. Although it sure beats health issues.

My thoughts on the subject go something like this. I don't hold somebody's political beliefs against them. In fact, I enjoy political debate and there wouldn't be any around here if there weren't different opinions. So if somebody gets upset about something posted, it's no big deal. But when somebody gets really nasty or mean with another poster because of a stated political belief, I'm no longer amused.

Hey kash......

About a month and a half ago I suffered a mini stroke (tia) while up in Connecticut......had the Classic symptoms and didn't realzie it

I got off the plane and over the next few hours lost feelings in my left arm and hand was dropping everything and just couldn't talk or get the words out of my mouth what I wanted to say and was having the worst tension headache of my life

Over the next 6 or so hours I became a Google doctor and diagnosed myself with a brain tumor and broke out in sheer panic, it was then I went to the emergency room and was there about the better part of 3.5 days and the MRI and ct scan came back clear as far as brain tumor was concerned

After a few neurological dr visits I had a clot and that's what caused this with a severe lack of sleep over a month span, on some good medication now eating different and Prob feeling best I have in years

As to anybody here it's true the worst thing you could ever do is Google your symptoms on Google and diagnose yourself it will drive you crazy!!

As proximty said I did see him the other night was Gonna play cards just not as mentally sharp as I need to be, hope to see some posters here in the 2016 year!!

i agree with a lot of what menifee wrote in that his strength here was his passion but he had a big weakness in what i call "context." this is a big problem with the internet in general and it is only magnified when you don't share any of your background so other posters can relate better to where you're coming from. also when you bump ten year old threads the words are still there but some of the context (what was going on at the time and around the thread) is gone. hope this makes sense. :)

I have to respectfully disagree. I think at many times he posted just to post and to incite things, rather than out of genuine thoughts or opinions. This took threads that were good and sent them sideways. Its easy to say "ignore him" but with him ,it was impossible. This board is awesome and has many insightful minds and I think he brought it down with his lack of genuineness and immaturity. I think the board is better without him.

Just posting whatever it would take to justify accumulating another post and then hopefully another and another.

He was outspoken enough and understanding enough of most things to stimulate discussion without demanding it of people. He has a thick skin, can take a punch when he asks for it, pretty much all of the things that make for good internet banter and propels others to think. But, at some point it stopped feeling sincere and more a means to some other end that pleased only him and tended to aggravate pretty much everyone else.

Hopefully he returns and resumes being the thought provoking SRU rather than just the provoking SRU.

his racing and gambling background. 38,000 posts or whatever and we didn't even know they guy's home track? again it is my opinion that a poster's experiences and history in the game provide context to their posts and views that can help us understand them better even if we disagree.

Here's an example of what PA deals with. One afternoon we were sitting in the tent at Saratoga. I'm already going through withdrawal of SRU conspiracy theories in races. I loved watching replays of some meaningless race at the Mountain to see if some jockey stiffed a longshot that SRU backed. Inevitably, there was no stiffing despite SRU's claims to the contrary, it was just a bad horse. Yet, I still watched the replay. I was Charlie Brown and SRU held the football.

Clowns are the pegs on which the circus is hung.

That was my experience.

I would love to see that happen. AND, I would like to be a fly on the wall watching PA's face as his board has double and triple the hits because of SRU's return.

I have to say, there is less movement of threads, topics, less conversation with SRU gone.

2nd and finally, I am extremely loyal. If I like you, I'm loyal, unless you prove to be an issue.

I, quite honestly, never saw him as an issue. I respect PA's and the moderator's reasons but it doesn't mean I can't be loyal.
