Anyone playing? I am planning on playing a small ticket. Not sure what I am going to put in yet, but will post more, and a race by race analysis tonight. If anyone else has thoughts on the card, please post

3rd Race

Contenders appear to be the 1,4,5,8 although I dont like the successive Beyer drops on the 5. I will probably be using 1,4, and possibly the 8 on tickets.

4th Race

The 4 looks like she has to win the race, but I also think that the 2 and 6 have a shot in the race.

5th Race

The 2 horses that I like hte most are the 4 and 7, and I may give the 6 a shot to win.

6th Race

The 3,4,5 look to be the main contenders, with 3 possibly being a single on some tickets. I like the 5 for a price though.

7th Race

1,4,5,7 are all contenders although I like the 5 the best.

8th Race

In the last, the entry and the 3 look to be the only ones who should win the race.

prolly going to play two cheap tickets, $28 total, unless I find some people to split a bigger ticket with me at the track

1,4 / 4 / 4,7 / 3,5 / 5 / 1
5 / 2,4 / 4 / 4 / 4,5,7 / 1

Doing a quick scan this evening & here's what I have so far.

3) 1,4,6,8
Looks like a wide open affair to me - that means the chalk will win:)

4) 2,4 & 1
They both (2 & 4) scr'd from the Nursery stakes Sunday. Have concerns about the distance(being too short for them.) Perhaps talent will win out. Just might have to include the rail horse, may be more suited for this spot than the others.

5) 1,2,7,9
Nice debut by Billiard - should move forward. Lovely Rafaela - looks like a typical Lobo contender. Dawn's Angel - could be lone spd in this affair. Broad Minded - saw her dam run a few times, saw this one break her mdn. She exploded once she straighted for home, should like the added ground she gets today.

6) 6,7
Looks to be a bit of spd signed on in this one. Taking a shot with a couple I feel will be coming from off the pace & will hopefully be at nice odds.

7) 3,5
Drysdale had Studio Time ready to fire before off the bench, why not here? Tronare has improved before 2nd back from the layoff, again why not here?

8) 1,1A & 9
Holy Chit this is a bad race!!
Both the Golden Eagle Farm colorbearers had trouble last out - one with the post position & the other having steadied. Look for them both to improve. He's Real Special draws outside which is a plus imo & has a nice little pedigree to produce a debut winner.

I posted wild guesses in selections based on the program; low odds, trainers, pedigree; the Baffert in the 8th could do something. I like most of your original picks.
6th race I just picked #6 and #3.
Lone speed will be dangerous so Dawn's Angel deserves a close look. Track is very fast today.

Buddah,

I'm watching it...not betting it. I hope you catch 5 of 6. Over 4 million in the pool today.

my only real worry now is having the 5 as a single in the 7th. i like him, but would prefer to have the 4 or 7 with him.

Frank Lyons had the 5 as a single in his pick 4 ticket in the 7th race. As for me, if somebody forced me to pick the race, I would go with the 7 and 5 in the 7th race. I'm rooting for ya.

Do they split 50/50 for the consolation?

On a 4.1 million pool? I would say that is one hell of a takeout don't you think....? I bet there was two tickets..........

That was my thought too ...

half the pool for 6 of 6, quarter of the pool for 5 of 6 and the rest take.

Well, I could very well be wrong.

I looked at BRIS and saw a pool of $3 plus million. Taking 20% off the top then looking at a 75/25% split, $1.3 million looked like a single ticket winning the pot.

Bris is not counting the carryover money. It was 2 lucky tickets. I was at the track.

HORSE RACING
Law Helps Offset Insurance Costs

By Bob Mieszerski, Times Staff Writer

The takeout rate on exotic wagers on California horse races increased by one-half of 1% Wednesday, going from 20.18% to 20.68%, as a result of a bill signed last week by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The takeout rate on win, place and show bets remains at 15.43%.

The additional money generated by AB 701 will be used to help offset the cost of workers' compensation insurance paid by horsemen, theoretically making it more attractive to race in California and, thus, improving the product on the track.

Even with the increase, the exotic takeout rate in California remains lower than in almost every other state. Only Kentucky, where the takeout rate on all forms of wagering other than win, place and show betting is 19%, has a lower rate. The takeout rate on trifectas, superfecta, pick threes, pick fours and pick sixes in New York is 25%, although the rate for the pick six on non-carry-over days is 15%.

Buoyed by a record two-day pick-six carry-over of $708,235, $3,453,248 was wagered on Wednesday's pick six, meaning $714,132 was withheld. Before the new rate went in effect, the takeout on the same amount of money bet would have been $696,835, meaning $17,266 went toward the cost of workers' comp insurance instead of into the pockets of bettors.

"I think we're going to see a positive impact in both the short and long term," said Rick Baedeker, president of Hollywood Park. "This is good stuff. I'm glad we got it done. It's the first time in a while we have reason to be optimistic."

On a day when Jewel Of The Year was the only winning favorite in the pick six, there were two winning tickets and each was worth a Hollywood Park record $1,312,808.60. The previous best was when one ticket was worth $928,127.40 on July 21, 2002.

One of the winning tickets was purchased at Calder Race Course in Florida, while the other was through the Ohio wagering hub.

Jewel Of The Year paid $5 in beating Spring Festival and seven others, but no other winner paid less than double digits.

The biggest surprise came from Sigint, who won the seventh, a $58,000 allowance at 1 1/16 miles on the turf, at 11-1 with jockey Jon Court. He also went wire to wire with 5-1 shot Western Blondy in the fourth.

The other pick-six winners were 6-1 shot Stop The Talking in the third, Dawn's Angel, a 5-1 shot, in the fifth and 9-1 outsider Chickster in the eighth.

Two veteran stakes winners trained by Richard Mandella have been retired, both because of ankle injuries. Redattore, whose stakes victories included the 2003 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile, won the San Gabriel Handicap at Santa Anita in his final start on Dec. 28. Spring Star, a 5-year-old mare, last won the Wilshire Handicap on April 25.
