I've been betting The Field on and off for the past few years in Golf tournies. It almost seems like the odds are too good to be true. On the site I use the field is always +1000. Only 29 players are listed and the field is the other 115 golfers. I understand probably 75 of those don't have much of a chance, but you'll always have a Sunday sweat. There have already been 5-6 times this year where The Field has cashed. I just logged on to make my bet and for the first time the field has gone from +1000 to +800.

The field always seems random as players like Charlie Hoffman are part of The Field this week when clearly he shouldn't be.

You have even more leverage in a situation like that if you have the ability to bet on the final outcome during Sunday's 4th round. If you're in a good position, and leading with one, or more, of your "field" players, the odds quoted on anyone else who could beat you should be quite high.
High enough to allow you to hedge, and ensure a profit.

I priced golf odds for years when I was in bookmaking.
It's a fun sport to either bet or lay.

Which website do you use? I just checked Bovada and they list individual odds for each entrant. What you describe sounds like a much better version of the Derby future bet.

While I have never done it with golf but all bets with large fields I have crunched the numbers on appear to offer terrible odds with quite a house edge. If you take the typical Nascar field and use the odds to project a mutuel pool you will find the take out is around 50% or the pay outs are only half natural odds. Same goes for "Odds to win NBA Championship", "Odds to win Super Bowl etc, etc, I think most people bet them for some action and entertainment, tough to make money when the house is only paying out 50% of what they take in.

$50 to make $1,330 Oosthuizen
$50 to make $1,500 Russell Knox

Good question.

No legitimate book is offering +1000 on the field, unless they are boarding 100 players.

William Hill and Caesars both have field at 2-1 and 5-2 for PGA tourney this week in their Nevada books.
They have around 15-30 named on the board.

I love betting on golf. At least two days of action guaranteed and more likely 4 straight days.

If you haven't had a live bet hitting the back 9 on Sunday, you are missing out on a real thrill. And a cheap one at that considering the length of the wager.

Now if I could just walk down the street and make a legal golf bet....Nah, you have to live with the right fellow citizens to do that....

Very tough beat, Neumeier. It sure looked like Sean's putt was going in at the second playoff hole.

Last weeks loss was awful.

This week field +820. 29 golfers listed. Rory +200 Stenson +500 are favorites.

I have every guy except Stenson today pretty much. All the people that are in contention are part of the field. It's +820 this week.

So i hit my field bet last week. Had defending champion Matt Avery as part of the field. Do you guys think getting this price is a huge error? The field is 115 guys. They originally graded it as a loss, then made the correction when I called up.

7931 Field (Any other golfer)(wins The Arnold Palmer Invitational) +820 (Loss) 83.00 680.60 -83.00
