the second time i ever went to Las Vegas, i was part of a chartered junket. there was a junketeer in Boston that used to recruit people to fill up a plane and bring them to the dessert. the junketeer back then would ok you for a credit line and get paid from the hotel per head. when the player went to the hotel the player would sign marker's and when you got home you had to pay the junketeer. the junketeer would make 5% of what he collected and sent the money back to the hotel in Vegas. i had a credit line of $5000, my junketeer told me to take out the full amount and pay him when i got home.

on my first trip in the early 70's i went to the Alladin hotel. if you would have walked out the front door and taken a right on Las Vegas Blvd and walked about 100 yards you would have been in Churchill Downs race and sports book. in the place was the guy that was my casino host betting horses. i became very friendly with him. after 3 days of sitting around the race book and chatting with him i learned some of the ropes of Vegas as a very young man. he gave me his home phone number and i used to call him when i got home.

in the first trip i followed directions from my casino host, i was playing green chip craps for about 3 hours a day and lost about $500 for the 3 day trip. i had ordered some top shelf champagne and godiva chocolates and brought them back home, i also ate pretty good and saw the Lido show in the Stardust Hotel that the casino host got me tickets for, i went with this gal that i picked up at the hotel and had a good time. i had taken out the full $5000 in markers and cashed in the chips, when i got home i gave the junketeer the money including the $500 that i had lost on the crap table betting from the wrong side.

when i got home i started calling the casino host, his name was Mel, back in those days it was expensive to call long distance, we were talking about horses and he wound up setting me up with other junketeer's and casino host's in Las Vegas.
