i was just listening to TVG and they were talking about the 1 horse in the 4th race. the horse just won 4 life for $10,000 and today he is in double beatens $4000. the TVG boys called that a drop, i call it a step up.

I don't know Lambo.

Not feeling too well at the moment to do any extra deep digging.

I can tell you this: on 12/31 Purse was 16K and tag was $10K

tonight purse was 13.5K and tag was $4k

So unless some special condition or statebred status came into play, it was a drop.

the horse was not in a non winner of 4 last time, he has won 10 races

.the last race was a non winner of 4 lifetime OR non winner of 2 in 2014, from10000 down to 8000. This time it was non winner of 2 since Feb for 4000 claiming. Conditions about the same except for claiming price. This is a class drop. Running same conditions for 4000 less claiming price. Both races for non winner of 2 races in about a year.

some of these conditions can get complicated!

usually you can trust the tote board. I think this guy was 3/5, so he has to be considered 'well-suited' to the class level today

That's what large purses for low claiming races allow trainers to do.

Lose the horse and collect a windfall if the horse wins.
