I don't understand how something like this (stripping them of their title) could happen. Don't (or shouldn't) the Little League officials screen all the rosters for things like ages, district eligibility, etc. BEFORE teams get to the tournament level? You mean to tell me all those foreign teams that have won this championship in the past were properly vetted for eligibility?

Something is rotten about depriving the kids of this! Doesn't teach them anything except to not trust adults in authority to look after their interests.

It's pretty sad, alright.
I guess they blatantly took kids onto their roster from outside their area.
Little choice but to disqualify them, but you're right - it should have been
caught sooner.

You could make a movie about "Adults Behaving Badly" when it comes to
kids' sports. Doesn't matter what the sport is - you name it, some parent
somewhere is touting their kid as the next superstar.
The coaches can be just as bad, or worse, and it's been like that for a long time.
A shame to see that sort of example being set for the kids.

The coach and other local officials submitted falsified documentation to the national organization to prove eligibility.

Not taking it away would tell the kids that cheating is exceptable. I think they are getting that message often enough. It is time for somebody to stand up for what is right. It not like they would have won if they had used only eligible players. It is not like they were using only kids from a block outside the lines. I feel for the kids who did nothing wrong, but....

This type of thing goes on everywhere - in all sorts of sports.
There is, also, no telling how times teams get away with it.

In a way it's not surprising, but what a shame for those kids.

Its more a shame for the Mountain West team from Las Vegas who are now the US Champs...they got cheated out of playing for the World Title.

Obviously racially motivated. :)
Several of the mothers even say so.

Couple of episodes in the TV show (which was excellent) included this in the plotline. I don't remember it in the movie and haven't read the book.

Remember when the finals of the Little League World Series was all they showed? It was on wide world of sports. Now on ESPN (grrr) they show every game. These managers get their shot and they think they're LaRussa. ESPN is the reason this stuff happens. How many times in the summer did that young girl who pitched great lead off sports center? Nothing else was going on in sports? Really? Little kids are better off taking candy from Chester the molester than being shown on ESPN.

Seems like people could have complained sooner. I say that knowing that there is no doubt many adults/parents did everything in their power to load up this Chicago team with studs.

I just don't get the win at all costs mindset. I want to win - but I want to sleep at night too.

This racial travesty needs overturned, now that we have a government that agrees with cheating, what is wrong with cheating in Chicago?
