While I was watching yesterday's (8 Jan) track at Philadelphia Park go from good to muddy, I was wondering if certain jockeys (not horses but jockeys) could be considered as good or bad "mudders." Although this a certainly not a scientific study, my analysis of the winning and losing jockey's records (last three years) in yesterday's (muddy) races at Philadelphia Park are shown below:

Philadelphia Park - January 8th, 2002 - Race 6

Winner -- Sun Cat (Roberto Alvarado Jr.) $5.00 to win

fast track (2314 406-346-334 0.823|0.808|0.824) 17.5%
muddy (179 35-31-36 0.851|0.806|0.855) 19.6%

Losing Favorite -- N/A

Philadelphia Park - January 8th, 2002 - Race 7

Winner -- Party Chief (Rodrigo Madrigal Jr.) $6.60 to win

fast track (1907 296-273-273 0.833|0.835|0.842) 15.5%
muddy (205 24-38-17 0.538|0.778|0.654) 11.7%

Losing Favorite -- Glows Codetoo (Kendrick Carmouche)

fast track (1178 137-131-132 0.880|0.787|0.733) 11.6%
muddy (72 10-8-13 1.358|0.864|0.877) 13.9%

Philadelphia Park - January 8th, 2002 - Race 8

Winner -- Appeal to Reason (Stewart Elliott) $21.80 to win

fast track (1703 262-175-220 0.862|0.718|0.741) 15.4%
muddy (84 13-18-12 0.924|1.004|0.985) 15.5%

Losing Favorite -- Slip Knot (Rodrigo Madrigal Jr.)

fast track (1907 296-273-273 0.833|0.835|0.842) 15.5%
muddy (205 24-38-17 0.538|0.778|0.654) 11.7%

Philadelphia Park - January 8th, 2002 - Race 9

Winner -- Regimental (Luis A Belmonte) $8.20 to win

fast track (1800 274-258-279 0.820|0.792|0.803) 15.2%
muddy (6 1-0-2 0.633|0.250|0.783) 16.7%

Losing Favorite -- N/A

Philadelphia Park - January 8th, 2002 - Race 10

Winner -- Emily P. (Nick Santagata) $7.20 to win

fast track (2397 271-283-279 0.774|0.734|0.710) 15.2%
muddy (188 36-23-28 0.941|0.816|0.822) 19.1%

Losing Favorite -- Sirocco (Kendrick Carmouche)

fast track (1178 137-131-132 0.880|0.787|0.733) 11.6%
muddy (72 10-8-13 1.358|0.864|0.877) 13.9%

Although, I wouldn't hazard to make any conclusions from these five races, but the jockey's disparate records under varying track conditions does make you wonder if certain jockeys can also be rated as being either a good or bad "mudder." (However when compared to the other riders, I did find Luis Belmonte's few number of starts in muddy conditions rather interesting.) Anyway, I'd be interested if any of you have ever followed this "angle."
