Race 10

Strong consensus here on #4 by the public handicappers.

But I like Marohn on #10 Ace of Pace

Today's Class is "C-2 Fillies & Mares" TM Class 78

Was here 2 weeks ago in Class
"C-2 Fillies & Mares Winners of $2,000 Last 5 Starts New Jersey Sired or Owned Preferred" TM Class 84

I'm going to trust Trackmaster that this is a class drop....but damn if I know why...

Key box #10 with consensus picks, cost $24 (gotta be careful not to buy duplicate tickets :D )

1 Love You Bye.....Whittemore
4 My Qp Doll......Miller, David
6 Lizzie'S Dream....Miller, Marcus
8 Happilyeverfaster....Tetrick, Tim

Good Luck All

I have a question.

The Last race high 5 was chalky tonight.....but, since you have to be the only winner, why did the price payout as if nobody really cared to be the only winner? In other words, the winning horse was 2-5....so, most of the 33k that was bet into the pool should have NOT had the 2-5 on top, right? I dont understand how a chalky combo pays so little...shouldn't chalky combos pay a lot because most bettors wouldn't have heavy favorite on top, especially with other chalk types underneath?

Most people do not understand that this is a bad bet (until mandatory payout). This is especially true as more is bet meaning it is only harder to have the only combination. To have the only winning ticket would require either a large investment, random play, or some wicked sharp handicapping. More likely is a combination of the three when keying some price horses and playing against a heavy favorite.

The takeout on this bet is not an "industry low 8%". It is really 31% if there are two or more winning tickets.

Anyone else have opinions on the wager?

Joey

Wait for an expected high priced favorite race ~5/2, in a 10 horse field and buy a $15,120 Box All.

Now that's a gamble..... :D

For a 10 horse field, boxing the field would cost $6,048 I think.

Im really disappointed in the Meadowlands and their marketing of the wager. I know horsemen need to be pleased too, but atleast keeping the 12 horse field for this race only would help alot IMO. Having 12 horses creates 95,040 combinations compared to only 30,240 when there are 10 horses. Having the only winning ticket in the 10 horse field is near impossible. They are heavily marketing the wager and its 100k "carryover" which is BS. Its a 31% takeout bet. They want the jackpot to grow so they can rake in their 8% and see more and more bet. 12 horse field would atleast offer 3 times more combinations and the reality of having the only winning ticket a remote possibility, but that is not what Meadowlands wants.

30,240 combos @ 50¢ each = $15,120 , right?

Yes it is hard to understand. I couldn't figure out why there was a carryover until I realized the one ticket takes all part.

You're right Joey, my bad

the Jackpot 5 is a 20¢ minimum, $6,048 to box all in a 10 horse field

Didn't have my think cap on this AM :)
